The LATGM is a static missile launcher used exclusively by West German military forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.

Overview[]

The LATGM is a static medium-range, anti-tank guided missile launcher.

It is capable of firing SACLOS-guided[CfgAm 1] missiles that are fitted with 115 mm high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warheads.[CfgAm 2] A missile can be launched once every 15 seconds[CfgWp 3] (fire rate of 4 rounds per minute).[Formula 1] The launcher's sight unit has a fixed magnification of 7x zoom.[CfgVh 2][CfgVh 3][Formula 2] Its missiles can be controlled up to a maximum distance of 2,000 metres.[CfgAm 3][CfgAm 4]

LATGM turrets always come pre-loaded with one missile and retain access to a further three missiles in reseve for a combined pool of four missiles.[CfgVh 4] The tripod's rotation limits allow for a maximum of 40 degrees in either direction horizontally.[CfgVh 5][CfgVh 6] Vertical rotation limits are restricted to a maximum elevation and depression of just 20 degrees.[CfgVh 7][CfgVh 8]

The launcher itself can be disassembled into a man-portable backpack form if it needs to be repositioned. This backpack is standalone and does not require a separate tripod component.[CfgVh 9]

Optics[]

Arma3-gmcwglatgm-ironsight-overview

The LATGM's sight unit cannot be manually zeroed. It has a fixed magnification of 7x zoom.[CfgVh 2][CfgVh 3][Formula 2] It does not have the ability to toggle enhanced vision modes.[CfgVh 10]

The centre of the reticle's crosshair represents the approximate point of impact for a launched missile. Depending on the trajectory and velocity of the missile, it may not always be able to hit the target point precisely.

It should also be noted that control of the missile's flight is restricted to a cone-shaped radius of 45 degrees.[CfgAm 5][CfgAm 6] Pointing the reticle's crosshairs outside of this cone (from the missile's seeker) will temporarily cause the operator to lose control. Control can be regained so long as the crosshairs are pointed back within the bounds of this cone.

Munitions[]

LATGM launchers can load and fire two[note 3] types of missiles:[CfgWp 4]

[CfgAm 19][Formula 3]
Deflection angle (degrees) [CfgAm 20] [CfgAm 21]

Standard missile with a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead.[CfgAm 11][CfgAm 2]

DM92 missiles are always hard-launched with a velocity of 36 m/s.[CfgMa 2] The missile's motor will ignite 0.25 seconds after launch[CfgAm 22], and needs a further 5 seconds of flight time[CfgAm 23] to attain a top speed of 180 m/s.[CfgAm 15] The missile has enough fuel for a maximum flight time of 22 seconds. It will automatically self-destruct if it does not hit its target before this time expires.[CfgAm 24]

The DM92 has a maximum control range of 2,000 metres.[CfgAm 3] The primary warhead is purely explosive-based and has a blast radius of 3.3 metres.[CfgAm 12] Its kinetic submunition is launched with a velocity of 1,000 m/s[CfgAm 14] and can penetrate up to ~ 780 millimetres of armour plating.[CfgAm 19][Formula 3]

DM82[]

Older missile fitted with a weaker HEAT warhead.[CfgAm 29][CfgAm 30]

DM82 missiles are hard-launched with an initial velocity of 36 m/s.[CfgMa 3] The missile's motor will ignite 0.25 seconds after being launched[CfgAm 41], and take a further 5 seconds of flight time[CfgAm 42] before it can attain a top speed of up to 180 m/s.[CfgAm 34] DM82 missiles have enough fuel for a maximum flight time of 22 seconds. The missile will self-destruct if it does not come into contact with its target before this limit expires.[CfgAm 43]

The DM82 has a maximum control range of 2,000 metres.[CfgAm 4] The primary warhead is purely explosive-based and has a blast radius of 3.3 metres.[CfgAm 31] Its kinetic submunition is launched with a velocity of 1,000 m/s[CfgAm 33] and can penetrate up to ~ 594 millimetres of armour plating.[CfgAm 38][Formula 4]

Trivia[]

  • LATGMs are modelled after the French/German-made "MILAN" anti-tank missile system.
  • At launch, the specular values of the LATGM's tube and tripod textures were much higher, making them shine brightly whenever the sun or any other light source was shone in their direction. Its specular values were subsequently toned down after Update 1.1.3824's release.[1]

Notes[]

  1. The LATGM actually uses four 1-round missile "magazines" but only one missile can be loaded into the tube and fired at a time (thereby restricting it to a "capacity" of one missile).
  2. Dexterity is defined within the weapon's config but it does not apply since the LATGM is a static turret.
  3. Unless specified otherwise, static LATGMs are always loaded with DM92 missiles and not DM82s unless the latter are added to the turret with scripting commands.
  4. The primary component of the DM92's warhead is purely explosive and cannot pierce armour since it detonates on impact.
  5. The primary component of the DM82's warhead is purely explosive and cannot pierce armour since it detonates on impact.
