The LRPS (full name: Long-Range Precision Scope) is a high-powered, variable-magnification sniper scope used by NATO, CSAT and the AAF in ArmA 3.

Design[]

The LRPS can toggle between two fields of view[CfgWp 5] with a minimum magnification of 5.95x zoom[CfgWp 1][Formula 1][note 1] and a maximum of 25x zoom.[CfgWp 2][Formula 2]

Zeroing can be manually adjusted, starting from a minimum of 300 m up to a maximum of 2,400 m (it should be noted that some limits differ depending on the weapon platform).[CfgWp 3] By default, the LRPS uses a zeroing setting of 500 m.[CfgWp 6]

The LRPS uses a mil-dot reticle and is intended to be used on large calibre sniper rifles.* This includes but is not limited to:

(*) Although technically intended for just sniper rifles, larger marksman rifles chambered in both .338/9.3 mm are still compatible with the LRPS. Some minor zeroing adjustments may need to be made to accommodate for the difference in ballistic profiles beyond ~ 750 metres however (+100 m or -100 m), as they are not intended to be used for engagements beyond 1,000 metres.

Unlike the MOS and the DMS, the LRPS does not have a backup ironsight/reflex sight. It should also be noted that attaching the LRPS will increase the inertia penalty of the weapon that it is mounted onto by +0.2.[CfgWp 7]

AI[]

NOTE: The information in this section only applies to the AI.

The LRPS is classified[1] as a type 2 optical sight.[CfgWp 8] If the weapon is configured with AI-only firemodes[2], AI units that have the LRPS mounted onto their weapon will have access to far range firemodes.[3]

Camouflage[]

  • Black: Standard chrome black finish. Used by Mediterranean/Eastern European NATO forces, Mediterranean CSAT snipers and the AAF.
  • Tropic: Forest green/jungle-themed camouflage spraypaint. Exclusive to Pacific NATO snipers.
  • Green Hex: Tropical Hexacam camouflage pattern. Only utilised by Pacific CSAT snipers.

Trivia[]

  • The LRPS is based on the real-world "NXS 5.5-22x56" riflescope manufactured by NightForce Optics, Inc.[4]
  • It was not originally available at ArmA 3's launch and was only added as a usable scope with Game Update 1.08.[5]
  • Prior to the release of the Marksman DLC, the LRPS used the same reticle as the SOS (now known as the MOS).[6]
  • The Tropic and Green Hex camouflage variants were not added until the release of the Apex expansion pack.[7]

Formulae[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 0.25 / opticsZoomMax = 0.25 / 0.042
  2. 2.0 2.1 0.25 / opticsZoomMin = 0.25 / 0.01

Notes[]

  1. The in-game tooltip states that the LRPS has a minimum zoom of 6x but the formula for calculating its zoom actually returns a value of 5.952380952380952 instead (0.25 / 0.042).
