Larkin Aviation is a civil aviation company based in the United States.[2]

Background[]

Larkin Aviation HQ, Seattle, WA (2013)

Situated in the city of Seattle[2], Larkin Aviation was founded in 1983[1] and caters to a variety of services ranging from civil construction projects, air tourism, and transporting V.I.P clients. It is solely owned and operated by the Larkin brothers, Tom and Joseph (also known simply as 'Joe').

The company's headquarters are located at the base of Hamilton Viewpoint, in-between the Elliott Bay to the east and the Puget Sound to the west.

It was formerly a subsidiary of the Canadian conglomerate, Vrana Corp[3][4], but the two companies have since parted ways. As of late 2013, Larkin Aviation wholly exists as an independent entity.[5]

Known members[]

  • Tom Larkin (Owner)
  • Joseph Larkin (Co-owner)
  • Paul Kelly (Security manager)[6]
  • Andrew Craymer (Maintenance manager)[7]
  • Michelle Carmichael (Business manager, ex-Vrana supervisor)[8]

History[]

1983-2007[]

Established by their father, Harry Larkin, the company steadily grew in both reputation and size thanks to Harry building up a network of friends and associates over the years.[2][9] He had accumulated these contacts both as a civilian and during his time in the U.S. military.[10] This greatly contributed to the diversification of the company's then-minor portfolio, and this bountiful streak of contracts would continue throughout the 1990s and into the early-mid 2000s.[11]

2008[]

The Global Financial Crisis (GFC) of 2008 would put an end to the company's success streak and leave it hanging on the brink. Tough economic conditions made it difficult for Harry to meet loan repayments as civil contracts dried up. The company's downward spiral into insolvency would continue well into the early 2010s.[11]

June 2013[]

On June 17th, 2013[1], Harry Larkin would pass away and his two sons, Joseph and Tom, would inherit what was left of his business.[2][11] Joe was forced to run the business alone[12] until his brother returned from college.[13] In the meantime, unfavourable economic conditions meant that the company was still struggling and was unable to hire any new pilots.[14]

July 2013[]

Tom would subsequently return to the United States on July 4th[1] and begin the arduous process of assuming control of the company. He would be designated as the company's primary pilot as Joseph - a former aviator in the U.S. Army[15][16][17][18], wasn't able to fly due to the injuries he had sustained in an accident a week prior.[3]

August 2013[]

By mid-August, the company would be acquired by Vrana Corp. after a deal was personally arranged between then-CEO of Vrana, William R. J. Haydon, who had already purchased and refurbished the company's helicopter.[19][3] The deal had come about after Haydon had booked several charter flights with the company and was impressed by the two brothers.[20]

As part of the acquisition deal, Vrana would dispatch a manager, Michelle Carmichael, to supervise the activities of Larkin Aviation.[8] Alongside this, Carmichael would arrange to have the necessary supplies and a heavy utility helicopter delivered to bring the company up to standard.[21] Larkin Aviation would continue to take up contracts from Vrana and another subsidiary, ION Services. These contracts included cargo transportation and training exercises, to even assisting the Seattle Police Department in transporting SWAT officers.[22]

However, Vrana's contracts increasingly placed the Larkin brothers in dangerous situations. In one such contract, Tom was forced to cut short his participation in the Veterans Parade airshow at the Bremerton Docklands after being suddenly diverted by Vrana for a new assignment. Tom was tasked with collecting a "special" container from a partially sunk cargo ship in the middle of Seattle.[23] The cargo was strangely heavy and made flying difficult, exacerbated by the poor weather conditions.

Tom airlifts the unusual container away from the sunken vessel.

After dropping off the cargo, Tom's heavy utility helicopter would experience an engine failure and was forced to auto-rotate to the ground.[24] This made the Larkin brothers extremely suspicious and wary of their parent company's intentions.[25]

To confirm their suspicions, Joe tagged along on a flight to transport Haydon's head of operations, Brian Frost.[26] On the flight, Joe threatened Frost in order to get more information about the unusual container which had almost cost the brothers their lives. Frost was deeply shaken by the dangerous flight manoeuvres that Tom was making and eventually broke, divulging the location of the container to the brothers and telling them to find Mark Reynolds, an associate who had a data stick with more information.[27]

Having extracted the necessary details out of Frost, Kelly reached out to his contacts within the Seattle Police Department and arranged to have a team of SWAT officers raid the Hood Warehouse Complex where the suspicious container was located. However, Kelly would only report back that it was completely empty.[28] Although the SWAT officers who participated in the raid believed that it would be enough to bring Haydon in for questioning[29], no further investigation into the matter was carried out by the police due to the lack of evidence.[30]

The two sides would eventually part ways following an incident involving Tom intercepting Haydon's personal helicopter. Tom flew dangerously close to Haydon's aircraft and forced the latter to land out of safety concerns.[31] The fallout from the incident would lead to Tom being briefly detained by the authorities, though he was not charged for his actions.[32] Eventually, the two sides would sever their business relations, leaving Larkin Aviation as an independent entity once more.[5]

2035[]

As of mid 2035, Larkin Aviation continues to operate and has even begun to sponsor go-kart racing teams.[33][34]

And, honestly, since dad passed, it's been a real struggle on my own. With this economy, it's just way too tight to hire another pilot, y'know? I guess what I'm sayin' is - I dunno - it's just real great to see you again, Tom."
  15. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Memory: Operation Longbow, "Operation Longbow is in effect. The U.S. Army has deployed to the region on training exercises; our goal is to get the men and vehicles properly acclimatised to the environment and familiar with the terrain. To the north, an aggressive state is sabre-rattling: keen to claim the rich vein of oil deposits on this side of the border. Reports indicate that diplomatic routes are leading to dead ends, and we're getting close to a flashpoint. By now, it's no secret that we're conducting border patrols and making contact with the local population, with the full support of the fearful government here. Today, we've got some top brass heading in to survey the situation. Operating out of CSL Archer, you're tasked to transport your commanding officer and a general above friendly territory."
  16. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Memory: Operation Arrowhead, "The invasion had begun by this point, Operation Arrowhead was in effect. We'd moved deeper into the North's territory, establishing Forward Operating Bases in the wake of a fast, coordinated attack. We'd been assigned as support - part of a larger Air Weapons Team - providing tactical cover to ground forces forging their way north through the more dense settlements."
  17. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Memory: Operation Arrowhead, "Well... By this stage, the North had built up a significant fighting force; but, it was nothing unexpected. We're talking old soviet tanks, Cold War-era stuff, really. Dangerous, yes, but - well - nothing our Apache pilots couldn't handle.."
  18. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Memory: Operation Bullseye, "Well, it was post-invasion - we'd ripped through whatever 'standing-army' had existed - all key positions were under coalition control. Only a guerilla insurgency remained, and what was most important was to get the local population on our side."
  19. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Rising Tide, "Hey, Bro, It looks like we've got a chance to get you up and running. Today's flight is a simple one, but, it's pretty important. A buyer is interested in purchasing one of our choppers; you're tasked to provide a demonstration flight - let him see how the old bird handles. Transport him to his compound, and, Tom, try to give him a smooth flight! Look, we're really in a jam at the moment, so every dollar we can get for this asset is vital to our cash-flow. I've got complete faith in you on this one. Knock it out the park, bro. Joe."
  20. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Deal, "Mr Larkin, let me be frank. I would be very disappointed to see a traditional family business, such as Larkin Aviation, crumble under economic pressure. Consequently, I strongly believe that we could work together - a mutually beneficial relationship, as it were. [...] Indeed, Tom. Well, we seek to strengthen our presence in the civil rotor-wing sector; Larkin Aviation has a strong reputation and an ideal location. You represent one of the business' primary assets - I sought to ascertain your capacity as a pilot, and your brother's as business manager."
  21. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Burn Card, "Perks of the agreement... I'm not the only thing you boys get as part of the take-over, Mr Larkin. We just needed to upgrade some of your equipment. Partly for sharing maintenance costs; partly to standardise your operational capacity. We're simply... bringing you into line with Vrana Corp's requirements."

  24. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Hand that Feeds, "What the hell..? Mayday, mayday, mayday; this is Lima Alpha Four Two, Lima Alpha Four Two. Break. Engine failure; autorotating to the ground; one man aboard; over."
  25. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Hand that Feeds, "Thank goodness for that. Tom, shut down the systems. Stay where you are. I'll get you recovered. The blame lies squarely at Vrana Corp's door."
  26. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Shakedown, "Hey, Tom. This whole situation with Vrana Corp has spun right out of control. We can't let Larkin Aviation get caught up in their shady corporate activities. Michelle's backing us, and provided the location of the CEO's head of operations, Brian Frost. He almost certainly knows what Haydon's been up to. Give him a shaky ride and - once we've extracted the info - we'll try to find out what exactly this has all been about. I'll be up there with you, Joe."
  27. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Shakedown, "Fine, fine! It's still stored in the Hood Warehouse complex. [...] He has a data stick. You'll find what you need on it. Tell him... tell him it's bigger than 'Black Gauntlet'. He'll know. [...] Ok! I'll tell you this much - Haydon is leaving the country. [...] He's got a flight chartered. Tail number Charlie Golf Sierra Tango Romeo."
  28. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Take Down, "Hey, Tom. This is it. Our last chance is to direct the authorities towards whatever it is they have stashed away at the Hood Warehouse Complex. We know that they aren't going to remain out in the open for much longer, but the police just don't have the resources to move quickly enough. It seems that we've got to act now. Kelly's put a word in with some old friends on the force. Transport and direct a response team directly to wherever the containers are stored. Good luck, Tom. Michelle."
  29. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Take Down, "Nothing tangible... but get this: Haydon was here a few hours ago. Just him and one assistant. Shady looking fella'. Apparently, they loaded up some SUV and sped away. All very shady. It's not much, no, but the SWAT guys think it's enough to talk to Haydon. So just sit tight."
  30. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Take Down, "I've been in contact with a buddy on the force. He says command is dragging their feet over this one. They say there's no basis for an investigation."
  31. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Take Down, "What on earth is going on here? What are you doing, man? I know it's you, Larkin - back away, now! You've got no idea what you're getting involved in here! This is your last chance to back off, Tom... Mark my words, you've just made a big mistake."
  32. Take On Helicopters 2011 [Video Game], Bohemia Interactive a.s., Lark Rising, The Take Down, "I'm just glad they didn't charge you. Honestly - it's been crazy here. [...] Whatever the case, I'm just glad your a free man. That was a crazy stunt you pulled."
