NOTE: This article is about the baseline LCH worn by NATO forces in ArmA 3. For its MJTF Slick counterpart in the semi-official Expeditionary Forces Creator DLC, see Light Combat Helmet (Expeditionary Forces).

The Light Combat Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by specialist/recon NATO forces and in limited numbers with CTRG operatives in ArmA 3.

Overview[]

The Light Combat Helmet is a smaller and more compact version of the regular Combat Helmet donned by conventional NATO forces. It is rated at Level I protection standards and has a weight of 20 "mass" units.[CfgWp 1]

It is one of the lightest helmets to wear while still being able to provide some protection against ballistic projectiles. Unfortunately, there are few benefits to the LCH aside from its low weight since it has minimal armour and is, at least protection-wise, no better than civilian helmets like the Skate Helmet. At non-point blank ranges, the wearer should be able to survive a single hit from a 9 mm round. Hits from intermediate rifle cartridges will not be survivable, however.

Camouflage[]

  • Black: Black paint finish with sage green rails.
  • Desert: Arid spraypaint pattern meant to mimic a snake's skin.
  • Grass: Semi-arid spraypaint scheme meant to imitate blades of grass.
  • Khaki: Dusty mud brown spraypaint finish with sage green-coloured rails. Standard camouflage variety used by Mediterranean NATO forces.
  • Sand: Desert sand paint scheme with tan-coloured rails.
  • Snakeskin: Lush spraypaint pattern meant to mimic a snake's skin.
  • Tropic: Tropic MTP camouflage pattern with forest green-painted rails. Used by Pacific NATO forces.
  • Woodland: Woodland MTP camouflage pattern with dark green-painted rails. Exclusive to Eastern European NATO forces.

Trivia[]

  • Light Combat Helmets appear to be based on the real-world "FAST" helmet designed by Ops-Core, a subsidiary of the Gentex Corporation. However, the in-game LCHs seem to be more closely modelled after airsoft copies rather than actual mil-spec FAST helmets.
  • The headset (modelled after Peltor "Comtac"-series of active ear pro headsets), strapped infrared strobe and side rail flashlight (based on ACR Artex's "MS-2000" and SureFire's "Helmet Light" respectively) are purely cosmetic accessories and bear no functional purpose in-game.
  • Prior to the release of the Bootcamp Update and Marksmen DLC, the Light Combat Helmet was originally known as the SF Helmet and was only available in one camouflage variety.[1][2]

    Uncustomised pre-Alpha LCH.

During the pre-Alpha phase of ArmA 3's development, an unmodified version of the Light Combat Helmet was intended to be featured as part of the game's assets.
    • Its original model - or rather, a possible remnant of it, still exists within the game files but remains completely unused (Model name: headgear_placeholder.p3d[6]).
    • Because it shares the exact same textures as its final version, the original Light Combat Helmet can be re-enabled through the use of a custom addon.
    • It was shown on several pre-Alpha screenshots and can still be seen in the official Stratis Teaser trailer. In the teaser trailer, Corporal Ben Kerry is briefly shown wearing an uncustomised LCH before the camera pans away to reveal the island.[7]
