After becoming an army training area for the Livonian Defense Force in the 1990s, the Nadbór region's military exclusion zone has gradually expanded to accommodate the "Electron" joint military exercises. Beginning in late 2035, the "Electron" exercises have been held by members of the NATO alliance on a biennial basis.[1][2][3][4]

These abandoned[1][4] settlements are often repurposed into a combination of firing ranges[5], Electronic Warfare (EW) and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) training grounds[2], as well as live fire courses for Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT).[6][7]

As a result, access to these settlements is strictly prohibited to all non-military personnel. Exceptions have been made for civilian residents who still live in settlements such as the town of Nadbór.[8][9] However for security reasons, residents passing through the zone must possess an access pass on them at all times. Visitors and non-residents who lack a pass must instead go through designated civilian corridors (such as through the crossroads at Wrzeszcz).[10]
