Loy Manara is a settlement located in the central highlands of Takistan.
Overview[]
A medium-sized village situated at the base of the Darre-Ye Sabz hills, Loy Manara is located right next to the airfield of the same name (located to its south-west). Heading due east along the main road will lead to the settlement of Chardarakht. On the other hand, the smaller village of Jaza is within walking distance and is located just across the main road on the south-east side of the airfield.
Loy Manara is home to a sizeable portion of ethnic Karzeghis, with leadership of the village being held by a warlord named Khaled. As a minority group, Khaled's people have faced extensive persecution from the (former) Takistani regime of Colonel Muhammad Aziz[1][2] until the latter was overthrown in early June 2012.[3]

History[]

U.S.-led NATO coalition forces attack the airfield (2012)
On June 1st, 2012[3], the Loy Manara airfield and its surrounding villages would come under attack when U.S.-led NATO forces commenced their invasion into Central Takistan.[4] Pro-government militias attempted to fortify the village with improvised sandbag bunkers and heavy machine guns while a sharpshooter set up a sniping nest atop the old minaret.
American troops soon blasted their way through the defences at the airfield and overran it within minutes of landing their helicopters onto the runway. The Americans then proceeded to clear the surrounding settlements of government soldiers and militias.[5]
At this stage, government forces were in complete disarray and stood little hope of holding onto Loy Manara. As the Americans made their way through Loy Manara to mop up any remaining troops[6], one of the infantry squads, callsign Hitman One, came within proximity to a hut that Loy Manara's warlord, Khaled, was residing at. He signalled to the Americans that he wasn't a threat and asked if his tribesmen could join the Americans in their fight to overthrow the government. The Americans accepted his offer but cautioned Khaled and his men to keep out of their line of fire.[2]
Khaled's men immediately mobilised and joined the Americans in launching a coordinated assault against Jaza.[7] With the assistance of Khaled's fighters, Loy Manara and Jaza would be cleared of all remaining government troops. The Americans would then proceed to establish a Forward Operating Base at the airfield.[8]
