The flare rises to a height of about 200m and the parachute slows its descent while it burns for 25s. Field Manual

The M127 Flare Launcher is a handheld signal flare launcher used by several BLUFOR factions in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The M127 is a reloadable, handheld flare launcher device.
The launcher is capable of loading and firing less-than-lethal (LTL) parachute star flares available in three colours. By default, the M127 fires white-coloured flares, while the M128 and M129 sub-variants are pre-loaded with green and red flares (respectively).
Flares are always launched with an initial velocity of 24 m/s. Precisely 0.1 seconds after being launched, the flares will fly into the air and take two more seconds to reach a maximum speed of 140 m/s. After 8 seconds of flight time, they begin to descend to the ground while illuminating the surrounding area for 120 seconds up until they expire.
It should be noted that flares have a minimum fuse distance of 3 metres. They will not ignite if the flare does not fly beyond this threshold. Flares can also be prematurely destroyed before the flare ignites if they collide into a hard object.
Munitions[]
Base damage value | Flare duration (seconds) | Initial velocity (m/s) |
---|---|---|
10 | 120 | 24 |
M127s can load three types of flares. They have identical "mass" values of 4 units apiece:
Flare (White)[]

Default white-coloured parachute flare. Designated as M127.
Flare (Green)[]

Alternate green-coloured parachute flare. Designated as M128.
Flare (Red)[]

Alternate red-coloured parachute flare. Designated as M129.
Trivia[]
- Prior to Update 1.2[1], it was not actually utilised by any factions and was only available in MACV ammoboxes.
- Until the introduction of the USMC Force Reconnaissance sub-faction in Update 1.3, the M127 was not used by any of the MACV faction's units.[2]
- The M127 is the first "weapon" in the series (albeit only in a semi-official capacity) that is carried as a launcher-type auxiliary weapon but functions as an LTL flare launcher.
- Due to engine limitations related to weapons that are treated as launchers, it is not possible to fire the M127 or its derivatives from a prone position.
