The M16A1 is a 5.56 mm assault rifle used exclusively by revolutionaries in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The M16A1 is a gas operated, selective-fire assault rifle that is chambered to fire the 5.56×45 mm round.
It primarily feeds from 20-round magazines but can also load 30-rounders used by its newer counterpart. It can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 652 rounds per minute on semi-auto[CfgWp 7][Formula 1] or up to 800 RPM when firing on full auto.[CfgWp 8][Formula 2] The M16A1 has a muzzle velocity of 960 m/s.[CfgWp 9][Formula 3][note 1]
M16A1s are not able to mount laser sights nor flashlights. However, it is possible to attach a riflescope with a fixed magnification of 4x onto the carryhandle.[CfgWp 10] Additionally, the M16A1 is able to mount a 5.56 mm sound suppressor if needed.[CfgWp 11]
Ironsights[]

The M16A1's ironsights can be manually zeroed starting at a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 400 metres (100, 200, 300, 400).[CfgWp 12] By default, it uses a zeroing of 300 metres.[CfgWp 13]
If an optical sight with a zeroing limit greater than 400 metres is fitted, the M16A1 will permit a maximum zeroing of 800 metres.[CfgWp 14][note 2]
Ammunition[]
NOTE: The M16A1 is capable of loading the same magazines utilised by non-Global Mobilization 5.56 mm-chambered weapons. To minimise clutter, they are deliberately excluded from this section.

Its 20-rounder magazines have a weight of 7.77778 "mass" units[CfgMa 11][CfgMa 12] while the 30-rounders have a weight of 12.2444 "mass" units instead:[CfgMa 13][CfgMa 14]

NOTE: The following table includes magazines from the base game that can also be loaded into the M16A1 whilst the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC is activated.
It should be noted that magazines from other Creator DLCs that share access to the same pool of magazines (Classnames: STANAG_556x45 / STANAG_556x45_Large) can also be loaded into the M16A1. However, those Creator DLCs must be loaded simultaneously alongside Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany in order for them to appear as selectable options in the Virtual Arsenal. |
Trivia[]
- Although Global Mobilization is a third party-developed DLC, this marks the first (semi-official) occasion that the A1 variant has been featured in the series.
- M16A1s were not initially available upon Global Mobilization's release and were only added after Update 1.1.[1]
- Prior to Update 1.4, the M16A1 (alongside all other 5.56 mm rifles based on the AR-15 platform) did not have access to M196 tracer magazines.[2]
- They were also unable to load the 150-round drum magazines featured in ArmA 3's Apex expansion pack. The patch subsequently corrected both issues and allows the M16A1 to freely load the drums.[2]
- A few tweaks were made to the M16A1's model after the release of Update 1.3 to better reflect its real-world counterpart. Namely, adjustments were made to reduce the diameter of the barrel, and the slip ring was changed to a flatter shape as opposed to its initial tapered style.[3]
- Following Update 1.5's release, the M16A1 was assigned to the (then-newly introduced) Revolutionaries INDFOR faction.[4] Before the patch, the M16A1 remained unused by any of the DLC's factions.
- After the release of Update 1.6, issues with the M16A1 being too precise in the hands of AI-controlled units were corrected. AI units wielding M16A1s can no longer shoot at targets with pinpoint accuracy.[5]

Notes[]
- ↑ The M16A1's muzzle velocity is determined by the magazine's initSpeed value (the weapon itself only applies a multiplier).
- ↑ By default, the M16A1 is not capable of mounting a scope with a zeroing limit higher than 800 metres as the M16A1 doesn't allow for such optics to be attached (the M16A1's dedicated scope has a maximum zeroing of 500 metres). This is only possible through the use of a custom addon that explicitly enables the mounting of >800 metre zeroing optics to the M16A1's optics slot.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
