The M16A1 is a 5.56 mm assault rifle used exclusively by revolutionaries in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The M16A1 is a gas operated, selective-fire assault rifle that is chambered to fire the 5.56×45 mm round.
It primarily feeds from 20-round magazines but can also load 30-rounders used by its newer counterpart. It can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 652 rounds per minute (800 on full auto) and retains a muzzle velocity of 960 m/s.
M16A1s are not able to mount laser sights nor flashlights. However, it is possible to attach a riflescope with a fixed magnification of 4x onto the carryhandle. Additionally, the M16A1 is able to mount a 5.56 mm sound suppressor if needed.
Ironsights[]
The M16A1's ironsights can be manually zeroed starting at a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 400 metres (100, 200, 300, 400). By default, it uses a zeroing of 300 metres.
Ammunition[]
NOTE: The M16A1 is capable of loading the same magazines utilised by non-Global Mobilization 5.56 mm-chambered weapons. To minimise clutter, they are deliberately excluded from this section.
Round name | Base damage value | Aerodynamic friction | Initial velocity (m/s) | Penetration depth (mm) |
---|---|---|---|---|
M193 | 9 | -0.00108782 | 960 | 10.08 |
M196 | 9 | -0.00108782 | 960 | 10.08 |

M856 | 9.56 | -0.0009131 | 960 | 10.512 |
The M16A1 is able to load up to eight types of magazines. They are fully interchangeable with other M16-style 5.56 mm rifles but not with G36s and SG550s. Its 20-rounder magazines weigh a "mass" of 7.77778 units while the 30-rounders weigh a total of 12.2444 "mass" instead:

Trivia[]
- Although Global Mobilization is a third party-developed DLC, this marks the first (semi-official) occasion that the A1 variant has been featured in the series.
- M16A1s were not initially available upon Global Mobilization's release and were only added after Update 1.1.[1]
- Prior to Update 1.4, the M16A1 (alongside all other 5.56 mm rifles based on the AR-15 platform) did not have access to M196 tracer magazines.[2]
- They were also unable to load the 150-round drum magazines featured in ArmA 3's Apex expansion pack. The patch subsequently corrected both issues and allows the M16A1 to freely load the drums.[2]
- A few tweaks were made to the M16A1's model after the release of Update 1.3 to better reflect its real-world counterpart. Namely, adjustments were made to reduce the diameter of the barrel, and the slip ring was changed to a flatter shape as opposed to its initial tapered style.[3]
- Following Update 1.5's release, the M16A1 was assigned to the (then-newly introduced) Revolutionaries INDFOR faction.[4] Before the patch, the M16A1 remained unused by any of the DLC's factions.
