The M16A2 is a 5.56 mm assault rifle that remains unused by any faction in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The M16A2 is an upgraded iteration of the M16A1 rifle. It features a heavier barrel, improved rear sight, redesigned handguard, and a modified upper receiver.
It primarily feeds from 30-round STANAG magazines but can also load older 20-rounder box magazines used by the M16A1. It can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 652 rounds per minute on semi-auto[CfgWp 7][Formula 1] or up to 800 RPM when firing with its 3-round burst firemode.[CfgWp 8][Formula 2] The M16A2 has a muzzle velocity of 960 m/s.[CfgWp 9][Formula 3][note 1]
It is not possible to attach IR laser sights or flashlights to the M16A2, but it is possible to mount a 4x magnification riflescope onto its carryhandle.[CfgWp 10] In addition to this riflescope, the M16A2's muzzle can be fitted with a 5.56 mm sound suppressor.[CfgWp 11]
Ironsights[]

The M16A2's ironsights can be manually zeroed starting at a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 400 metres (100, 200, 300, 400).[CfgWp 12] By default, it uses a zeroing of 300 metres.[CfgWp 13]
If an optical sight with a zeroing limit greater than 400 metres is fitted, the M16A2 will permit a maximum zeroing of 800 metres.[CfgWp 14][note 2]
Ammunition[]
NOTE: The M16A2 is capable of loading the same magazines utilised by non-Global Mobilization 5.56 mm-chambered weapons. To minimise clutter, they are deliberately excluded from this section.

The M16A2 can feed from eight types of magazines.[CfgWp 15] Excluding the G36 family and SG550s, these magazines are fully interchangeable with any AR15-type rifle that is chambered to fire the 5.56 mm NATO cartridge.
Its 30-rounder magazines have a weight of 12.2444 "mass" units[CfgMa 11][CfgMa 12] whereas the lower capacity 20-round magazines have a weight of 7.77778 "mass" units instead:[CfgMa 13][CfgMa 14]

NOTE: The following table includes magazines from the base game that can also be loaded into the M16A2 whilst the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC is activated.
It should be noted that magazines from other Creator DLCs that share access to the same pool of magazines (Classnames: STANAG_556x45 / STANAG_556x45_Large) can also be loaded into the M16A2. However, those Creator DLCs must be loaded simultaneously alongside Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany in order for them to appear as selectable options in the Virtual Arsenal. |
Trivia[]
- Alongside the M16A1, the M16A2 was not initially available on Global Mobilization's release and was only added after Patch 1.1.[1]
- Prior to Update 1.4, the M16A2 (as well as every other 5.56 mm weapon in the AR-15 family) did not have access to M196 tracer magazines.[2]
- They were also unable to load the 150-round drum magazines featured in ArmA 3's Apex expansion pack. The patch subsequently corrected both issues and allows the M16A2 to freely load the drums.[2]
- Update 1.6 corrected issues with AI range limits and dispersion values on the M16A2. Prior to Update 1.6, AI units equipped with M16A2s shared the same dispersion values with human players, allowing them to hit targets with pinpoint accuracy at any distance.[3]

Notes[]
- ↑ The M16A2's muzzle velocity is determined by the magazine's initSpeed value (the weapon itself only applies a multiplier).
- ↑ By default, the M16A2 is not capable of mounting a scope with a zeroing limit higher than 800 metres as the M16A2 doesn't allow for such optics to be attached (the M16A2's dedicated scope has a maximum zeroing of 500 metres). This is only possible through the use of a custom addon that explicitly enables the mounting of >800 metre zeroing optics to the M16A2's optics slot.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
