The M63A is a modular assault rifle used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Variants[]

The M63A is a 5.56 mm assault rifle used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The M63A is a selective-fire 5.56×45 mm assault rifle that operates from a multi-lug rotating bolt and long stroke gas piston. It can only load 30-round magazines, and can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 900 rounds per minute[CfgWp 8][Formula 1] with a muzzle velocity of 975 m/s.[CfgWp 9]
M63As do not have the ability to mount optical sights, sound suppressors, bipods or bayonets. The ironsights can be zeroed, though they can only be toggled between two preset ranges of either 300 metres or 500 metres.[CfgWp 10]

The M63A LMG is a 5.56 mm light machine gun used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The M63A's Light Machine Gun (LMG) configuration fires from an open bolt and is fed from the right side. Its receiver is inverted so that spent cases and links are ejected to the left.Unlike the baseline M63A, it feeds from 100-round linked belts stored in boxes instead. Performance-wise, it remains unchanged and has an identical fire rate of ~ 900 rounds per minute[CfgWp 18][Formula 2] with a muzzle velocity 975 m/s.[CfgWp 19]
The LMG variant cannot be fitted with optical sights or muzzle attachments but has the ability to mount a bipod.[CfgWp 20] Additionally, the LMG variant can be zeroed up to a maximum of 1,000 metres rather than 500. Adjustments are made with increments/decrements of 100 metres.[CfgWp 21]

The M63A Commando is a 5.56 mm light machine gun used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The Commando variant is a derivative of the M63A's LMG variant but lacks the quick-change barrel. It shares the exact same performance metrics as the LMG model; an unchanged fire rate of ~ 900 rounds per minute[CfgWp 29][Formula 3], and a muzzle velocity of 975 m/s.[CfgWp 30] It has the ability to mount a dedicated bipod[CfgWp 31] but still cannot optical sights or sound suppressors attached.
The main difference with the Commando is that it feeds from 150-round linked belts stored in drum magazines as opposed to boxes. Some other modifications to its furniture and stock have also been made, though it statistically remains identical to the LMG variant and can also have its ironsights be zeroed up to a maximum of 1,000 metres.[CfgWp 32]
Ironsights[]

Melee[]
The M63A's melee attack involves striking targets with a buttstroke. This applies to all variants of the M63A, with or without a bipod attached. Melee attacks can inflict up to 7 points of damage if they connect with the target successfully.[CfgAm 1]
Note that melee attacks cost stamina and will drain the following amounts whenever a buttstroke is performed:[SCR 1]
Variant | Weapon "mass" / dexterity values | Stamina cost |
---|---|---|
M63A | 80[CfgWp 3] / 1.6[CfgWp 7] | 5.12[Formula 4] |
M63A LMG | 110[CfgWp 13] / 1.4[CfgWp 17] | 6.16[Formula 5] |
M63A Commando | 110[CfgWp 24] / 1.4[CfgWp 28] | 6.16[Formula 6] |
Ammunition[]

Aerodynamic friction | -0.001425[CfgAm 3] |
Muzzle velocity (m/s) | 900 [CfgMa 4][CfgMa 5][CfgMa 6][note 1] Actual: 975 [CfgWp 9][CfgWp 19][CfgWp 30][note 2] |
Expected velocity (m/s) | 936 [CfgAm 4][note 3] |
Penetration depth (mm) | 13.5 [CfgAm 5][Formula 7] Actual: 14.625 [Formula 8][note 4] |
Deflection angle (degrees) | 30°[CfgAm 6] |
M63As in the baseline AR configuration can only load 30-rounder magazines[CfgWp 36], both of which have identical weights of 9[CfgMa 7] "mass" units. The LMG variant on the other hand, feeds exclusively from 100-round belt boxes[CfgWp 37] which weigh 27[CfgMa 8] "mass" units. Lastly, the Commando can only feed from 150-round belt drums[CfgWp 38] which have a weight of 40[CfgMa 9] "mass" units.
In the case of the 30-round magazines, they are exclusively designed to be used with the M63A and are not compatible with M16s/XM177s.[CfgWp 36] Likewise, the box/drum magazines for the LMG and Commando are not interchangeable with one another, nor can they load the baseline AR configuration's 30-round magazines:[CfgWp 37][CfgWp 38]

Trivia[]
- Initially, the M63A was only available in its baseline assault rifle configuration.[1] The LMG and Commando models were added after the release of Update 1.1.[2]
- Prior to Update 1.3's release, the LMG and Commando variants had integral bipods. This was changed with the patch's release so that their bipods can be freely removed and re-attached as required[3], though the baseline M63A rifle is still unable to have a bipod attached.
- The patch also increased the weight of the LMG and Commando variants, increasing them from 90 "mass" units to the current 110.[3]

Notes[]
- ↑ Only applies to the magazine(s). All of the M63A's weapon classes have their own initSpeed values defined (975 m/s) which override the magazine's initSpeed value.
- ↑ This is the actual muzzle velocity of the M63A, M63A LMG, and M63A Commando. The weapon class initSpeed values (975 m/s) takes precedence over the magazine initSpeed value (900 m/s).
- ↑ Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
- ↑ This is the actual penetration depth of the 5.56 mm ammunition fired by all M63A variants. The weapon class initSpeed values (975 m/s) take precedence over the magazine initSpeed value (900 m/s), affecting its penetration formula as a result.
