The M63A is a modular assault rifle used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Variants[]
The M63A is a 5.56 mm assault rifle used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The M63A is a selective-fire 5.56×45 mm assault rifle that operates from a multi-lug rotating bolt and long stroke gas piston. It loads from 30-round magazines, and can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 900 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity of 975 m/s.
M63As do not have the ability to mount optical sights, sound suppressors, bipods or bayonets. The ironsights can be zeroed, though they can only be toggled between two preset ranges of either 300 metres or 500 metres.
The M63A LMG is a 5.56 mm light machine gun used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The M63A's Light Machine Gun (LMG) configuration fires from an open bolt and is fed from the right side. Its receiver is inverted so that spent cases and links are ejected to the left.Unlike the baseline M63A, it feeds from 100-round linked belts stored in boxes instead. Performance-wise, it remains unchanged and has an identical fire rate of ~ 900 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity 975 m/s.
The LMG variant cannot be fitted with optical sights or muzzle attachments but has the ability to mount a bipod. Additionally, the LMG variant can be zeroed up to a maximum of 1,000 metres rather than 500. Adjustments are made with increments/decrements of 100 metres.
The M63A Commando is a 5.56 mm light machine gun used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The Commando variant is a derivative of the M63A's LMG variant but lacks the quick-change barrel. It shares the exact same performance metrics as the LMG model; an unchanged fire rate of ~ 900 rounds per minute, and a muzzle velocity of 975 m/s. It has the ability to mount a dedicated bipod but still cannot optical sights or sound suppressors attached.
The main difference with the Commando is that it feeds from 150-round linked belts stored in drum magazines as opposed to boxes. Some other modifications to its furniture and stock have also been made, though it statistically remains identical to the LMG variant and can also have its ironsights be zeroed up to a maximum of 1,000 metres.
Ironsights[]
Melee[]
The M63A's melee attack involves striking targets with a buttstroke. This applies to all variants of the M63A, with or without a bipod attached. Melee attacks can inflict up to 7 points of damage if they connect with the target successfully.
Note that melee attacks cost stamina and will drain the following amounts whenever a buttstroke is performed:[note 1]
Variant | Weapon "mass" / dexterity values | Stamina cost |
---|---|---|
M63A | 80 / 1.6 | 5.12 |
M63A LMG | 110 / 1.6 | 7.04 |
M63A Commando | 110 / 1.6 | 7.04 |
Ammunition[]
Base damage value | Aerodynamic friction | Initial velocity (m/s) | Penetration depth (mm) |
---|---|---|---|
8 | -0.001425 | 900 | 13.5 |
M63As in the baseline AR configuration can only load 30-rounder magazines, both of which have identical weights of 9 "mass". The LMG variant on the other hand, feeds from 100-round belt boxes which weigh 27 "mass" units. Lastly, the Commando can only feed from 150-round belt drums which have a weight of 40 "mass".
In the case of the 30-rounders, they are exclusively designed to be used with the M63A and are not compatible with M16s/XM177s. Likewise, the box/drum magazines for the LMG and Commando are not interchangeable with one another, nor can they load the baseline AR configuration's 30-round magazines:
30Rnd. M63A Mag[]
Standard 30-round magazine loaded with 5.56 mm ball ammunition. Can only be loaded into M63As using the AR configuration.
Every fourth round fired consists of a visible tracer round. Only the last four rounds will comprise exclusively of tracers.
30Rnd. M63A Mag (Tracer)[]
Alternate 30-round magazine for the AR variant that is mostly loaded with tracer ammunition.
100Rnd. M63A Box[]
100-round belt box designed for use with the M63A LMG.
100Rnd. M63A Box (Tracer)[]
Alternate 100-round belt box loaded solely with tracer ammunition.
Every single round fired will consist of a visible tracer.
150Rnd. M63A Drum[]
150-round belt drum designed exclusively for the M63A Commando.
Aside from capacity and weight, it is identical to regular 100-round belt boxes.
150Rnd. M63A Drum (Tracer)[]
Alternate 150-round belt box loaded solely with tracer ammunition.
Every round fired will comprise of a visible tracer round.
Trivia[]
- Initially, the M63A was only available in its baseline assault rifle configuration. The LMG and Commando models were added after the release of Update 1.1.[1]
- Prior to Update 1.3's release, the LMG and Commando variants had integral bipods. This was changed with the patch's release so that their bipods can be freely removed and re-attached as required[2], though the baseline M63A rifle is still unable to have a bipod attached.
- The patch also increased the weight of the LMG and Commando variants, increasing them from 90 "mass" units to the current 110.[2]

Notes[]
- ↑ Stamina costs are calculated according to the following formula: (Weapon's "mass" * 0.04) * (Weapon's dexterity)
