NOTE: This article is about the M72 LAW in ArmA 3's S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC. For M72 rocket launchers featured in ArmA: CWA/ARMA Reforger, see M72 LAW. |
« | The M72 LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon) is a portable single-use launcher capable of firing a 66mm unguided HEAT rocket 200m. Designed in 1959 as a replacement for the famous "Bazooka", it was adopted into service in 1963 and saw use by US and Australian forces during the Vietnam War. LAW's were often carried on SOG missions to deal with bunkers or vehicles. Field Manual

The M72 LAW is a 66 mm rocket launcher used by several BLUFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The M72 LAW is a disposable, shoulder-fired 66 mm rocket launcher.
It is always pre-loaded with a single 66 mm rocket that is fitted with a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead.[CfgAm 1] It is not possible to attach an optical scope onto the M72 LAW, but its peep sight can be zeroed starting from a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 350 metres (adjustments are made with 50 metre increments/decrements).[CfgWp 6]
Sight[]

The M72 LAW's sight allows for zeroing to be manually adjusted, starting from a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 350 metres (100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350).[CfgWp 6] By default, it is set to utilise a zeroing of 100 metres.[CfgWp 7] Although the leaf's markings are tinted, they are not illuminated and will not be fully visible under low-light conditions.

Aiming with a default zeroing of 100 m and using only the leaf's markings to hit target vehicle at 302 metres away (fifth line from top)
Landing hits with the M72 LAW can be done using the markings on the leaf. Assuming a default zeroing of 100 metres, the leaf's ten lines (from top-to-bottom) corresponds to targets at ranges of 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 metres.[CfgWp 8][CfgWp 9] However, it is not recommended to attempt landing hits at targets beyond 300 metres.[note 1]
Munitions[]

Rocket M72 HEAT
The M72 LAW is only able to load and fire one type of rocket.[CfgWp 10] This rocket has a weight of 10 "mass" units.[CfgMa 1] It is automatically discarded upon use[CfgWp 1][SCR 1] and cannot be reloaded:[note 2]
Parameter | Primary warhead | Submunition |
---|---|---|
Base damage value | 90[CfgAm 2] | 390[CfgAm 3] |
Splash damage value | 11[CfgAm 4] | 0[CfgAm 5] |

Maximum speed (m/s) | 300[CfgAm 10] | 0[CfgAm 11] |
Penetration depth (mm) | N/A [CfgAm 12][CfgAm 13][note 3] |

Deflection angle (degrees) | 5°[CfgAm 15] | 0°[CfgAm 16] |
Uses a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead.[CfgAm 1]
LAW rockets are always hard-launched with a velocity of 285 m/s.[CfgMa 2] 0.1 seconds after launch[CfgAm 17], the LAW will only need 0.05 seconds of flight time[CfgAm 18] to attain a top speed of up to 300 m/s.[CfgAm 10] The rocket's fuse will automatically detonate if the LAW does not manage to hit its target 14 seconds after launch.[CfgAm 19]
The primary component of the LAW's warhead is classified as high-explosive (HE).[CfgAm 6] It inflicts 80% explosive-type damage and only 20% kinetic damage.[CfgAm 12] The primary warhead cannot penetrate through armour plating as it explodes on impact.[CfgAm 13] The warhead has a blast radius of only 1.1 metres.[CfgAm 7]
The LAW's kinetic submunition is classified as a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) munition.[CfgAm 1] It is launched with an initial velocity of 1,000 m/s[CfgAm 9] and can pierce up to 300 millimetres of armour plating.[CfgAm 14][Formula 1]
Trivia[]
- The M72 LAW's firing sound was changed after Update 1.3.[1]
- For unknown reasons, S.O.G.'s LAW rockets are configured to use the same penetrator submunition as the B41, which in turn is configured to use the same submunition as the RPG-7V's PG-7VM grenade from ArmA 3's Apex expansion (Classname: ammo_Penetrator_PG7).[2]

Notes[]
- ↑ It is still possible to hit targets beyond 300 metres even with a default zeroing of 100 m, but the eighth and ninth markings normally cannot be seen in first person unless the user sets the sight's zeroing to 350 m.
- ↑ Due to engine limitations, it is technically possible to "reload" the launcher so long as it hasn't been fired and if the user has additional LAW rockets in their inventory. However, "reloading" in this manner does nothing as there are no alternate rockets for the M72 to use. The M72 itself cannot be reloaded once it is fired as game scripts will automatically force the launcher to be discarded.
- ↑ Due to its explosive token being set to a value of 0.8, the primary component of the LAW's warhead deals 20% kinetic damage and 80% explosive-type damage. However because it explodes on impact, it is unable to penetrate through vehicle armour.
