The MAAWS is an 84 mm recoilless rifle used exclusively by U.S. military forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the CSLA Iron Curtain Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The Multi-role Anti-armor Anti-tank Weapon System is a shoulder-fired, man-portable 84 mm recoilless rifle.
It is capable of loading two types of rounds that are fitted with either high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) or high-explosive dual purpose (HEDP) warheads. It has an effective firing range of 500 metres but this can potentially extend to 1,000 metres depending on the user's position.
The MAAWS features an unremovable magnified day sight with a 2.85x zoom. It cannot be manually zeroed but the scope's reticle features aimpoints intended for targets at distances of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 metres (from top to bottom).
Munitions[]
The MAAWS is able load and fire two types of rounds. Both have a weight of 60 "mass" units:
MAAWS HEAT[]
Warhead | Damage type | Base damage value | Penetration depth (mm) |
---|---|---|---|
Primary | High-Explosive | 110 | 7.5 |
Secondary | Kinetic | 425 | 400 |
Anti-armour round. Uses a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead.
It is fired with an initial velocity of 250 m/s. After 1 second of flight time, the round will attain a maximum flight speed of 750 m/s.
The warhead's primary (explosive) component has a blast radius of 0.1 metres. However, only 25% of this damage is actually considered to be high-explosive (HE) as it is functionally a kinetic-based projectile. The secondary kinetic submunition will be able to pierce up to 400 millimetres of armour plating and has a spill radius of 0.1 metres.
MAAWS HEDP[]
Warhead | Damage type | Base damage value | Penetration depth (mm) |
---|---|---|---|
Primary | High-Explosive | 110 | 3.75 |
Secondary | Kinetic | 375 | 499.99 |
Multipurpose anti-personnel/anti-armour round. Uses a high-explosive dual purpose (HEDP) warhead.
HEDP rounds are always fired with an initial velocity of 250 m/s. It takes 1 more second for the round to reach a top in-flight speed of 750 m/s.
The warhead's primary (explosive) component has a blast radius of 12 metres. Only 50% of this damage will be treated as HE damage; it is still treated primarily as a kinetic-based projectile. Its secondary submunition will be capable of penetrating approximately ~ 499 millimetres of armour plating and has a spill radius of 0.1 metres.
Trivia[]
- For unknown reasons, HEDP rounds fired by CSLA's MAAWS are bizarrely capable of penetrating through vehicle armour far more effectively than HEAT rounds.
- In reality, the FV502 HEDP round is only able to pierce a depth of up to 150 millimetres under the best of circumstances.
- CSLA's HEDP round on the other hand, is insanely effective at punching through tank armour and retains performance that matches tandem HEAT FFV751 rounds.
- As with most launcher-type weapons in CSLA's asset pool, the MAAWS is incorrectly reloaded as if it were an RPG-7. Real MAAWS launchers are rearmed by unlocking the hinged breech at the rear of the tube and then inserting a fresh round (not at front).
