MEDEX (alternately stylised as Medex) is a pharmaceutical company.

Background[]

MEDEX specialises in the research, development, and manufacturing of antibiotics and miscellaneous pharmaceutical drugs. They are especially well-known for their antimalarial Primaquine pills[1], which have become a highlight of the company's portfolio in recent years.

History[]

2038[]

Following the outbreak of a super-strain of malaria in the South Pacific nation of the Horizon Islands, MEDEX would experience a sudden spike in the sales of its Primaquine products.[2] Due to a shortage from official distributors, many have resorted to grey and black markets in order to obtain cheaper copies of MEDEX's products.[2]

AMBIGUOUS INFORMATION

Long after the outbreak, MEDEX would be fundamental in helping to develop a stable vaccine to the malaria super-strain. Their programme, in collaboration with the Global Health Initiative, was backed by Western governments and intelligence agencies, who provided the sample that was key to countering the strain.[3]

However, synthesising the vaccine would also take much time and only succeeded after multiple failed trials. Unsurprisingly, this lengthy process would come at the cost of many lives.[4]
