The MSG90 is a 7.62 mm sniper rifle that remains unused by any faction in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The MSG90 is a semi-automatic sniper rifle that is chambered for the 7.62×51 mm cartridge. It uses a roller-locked delayed blowback operation.
It loads from the same 20-round box magazines used by the G3 family of battle rifles. This includes the high-capacity 40-rounder magazines, as well as the 10- and 5-rounder magazines. It can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 550 rounds per minute[CfgWp 6][Formula 1] and has a muzzle velocity of 800 m/s.[CfgWp 7][Formula 2][note 1]
MSG90s lack a threaded barrel and cannot be suppressed, though they can be fitted with a variety of optical sights, IR/visible laser pointers, and flashlights.[CfgWp 8] A proprietary folding bipod can also be attached onto the rifle and deployed for extra stability.[CfgWp 9]
It should be noted that the ability to mount optical sights and laser pointers/flashlights is mutually exclusive. It is not possible to have both types of accessories attached onto the MSG90 at the same time.
Variants[]
MSG90A1[]

The MSG90A1 is a product-improved version of the original MSG90 sniper rifle. Unlike the baseline rifle, it is wielded by post-Cold War 1990s Danish special operations marksmen.
The MSG90A1's changes mainly include the incorporation of a properly adjustable ironsight as well as a threaded barrel, which permits the user to mount a 7.62 mm sound suppressor onto the muzzle.[CfgWp 15]
However, in all other aspects the MSG90A1 remains unchanged. It still does not allow for an optical sight and a laser pointer/flashlight to be fitted at the same time.[CfgWp 16]
PSG1[]

The PSG1 is a law enforcement version of the MSG90 and is the parent design upon which the MSG90 is actually based on. It is the only variant that is exclusively utilised by West German police sharpshooters.
Compared to its military counterparts, the PSG1 retains significantly better accuracy; from 0.0001454 rad down to 0.0000844 rad (a ~ 53% reduction in dispersion)[CfgWp 17], but suffers from downgrades in almost every other aspect. For starters, it is not able to mount any optics other than its dedicated riflescope.[CfgWp 22] Although it still supports being fitted with the MSG90's bipod[CfgWp 23], PSG1s are not issued with a bipod by default.
When it comes to inertia, the PSG1 inflicts a greater penalty on the user with an increase of almost ~ 21%.[CfgWp 20] Lastly, it is significantly heavier to wield and weighs ~ 28% more "mass" than the MSG90/MSG90A1.[CfgWp 18]
Ironsights[]

It should be noted that if an optical sight that allows for zeroing beyond 200 metres is attached, then the MSG90 will only permit a maximum zeroing of 800 metres.[CfgWp 26]

The MSG90A1 has a zeroing hard cap of 1,200 metres.[CfgWp 29] It is not possible adjust the MSG90A1's zeroing beyond this limit even if the optic itself allows it.

If the user manually removes the scope or it was not issued with the scope attached already, then the PSG1's scope mount will serve as an improvised pair of "ironsights". Whilst the scope remains detached, the PSG1 will default to a zeroing of 200 metres which cannot be adjusted.[CfgWp 30][CfgWp 31]
Note that when its riflescope is fitted, the PSG1 will still only allow for a maximum zeroing of 600 metres.[CfgWp 32] This is a hard cap that cannot be breached even if a supported optic (theoretically) allowed for zeroing beyond this.
Ammunition[]
Military and law enforcement versions of the MSG90 alike can load from six unique types of magazines.[CfgWp 33][CfgWp 34][CfgWp 35] These six magazine types are available in capacities of 5-, 10-, 20- and 40-round models. They all share the same Black colour scheme, though there is a single version of the 20-rounder magazine that is available with a unique Gold texture.
All of these magazines are fully interchangeable with the G3 family of 7.62 mm battle rifles but not with the SG542:

Trivia[]
- The MSG90 and its derivatives were not originally included as part of Global Mobilization's launch assets. They were only added after the release of Update 1.5.[1]
- Prior to Update 1.6, AI-controlled soldiers wielding the MSG90 and its derivatives could hit targets with pinpoint accuracy regardless of range. This was fixed by the patch's release.[2]
