The Marine Combat Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by MJTF units in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Expeditionary Forces Creator DLC.
Overview[]
Standard-issue ballistic helmet worn by Marines of the MJTF. The Marine Combat Helmet is analogous to the Army's basic Combat Helmet. It offers the exact same level of ballistic/explosive protection and is rated at Level II standards.
MCHs are available in four styles: the plain uncovered helmet with no covers or accessories attached, a second version of the plain (coverless) helmet but with a headset, a third that also has a headset but includes a mesh net cover ("Basic"), and a fourth variant that has a camera, helmet light, battery pack, headset, and strobe attached ("Full").
Regardless of its configuration, all MCH variants share the same weight of 30 "mass" units.[CfgWp 1][CfgWp 2][CfgWp 3]
Hitpoints[]
| Body part | Base armour value | Damage reduction modifier (vs. ballistic) | Damage reduction modifier (vs. explosions) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Head | 6[CfgWp 4] | 50%[CfgWp 5] | 50%[CfgWp 5] |
Camouflage[]
- Black:** Black/dark grey colour scheme for the mesh net.
- Coyote Brown:** Coyote brown/tan colour scheme for the mesh net.
- Desert:** Digital desert camouflage scheme for the mesh net.
- Olive:** Olive colour scheme for the mesh net.
- Sand:* Desert sand paint scheme with tan-coloured rails and exterior fasteners.
- Woodland:** Digital woodland camouflage scheme for the mesh net.
(*) This colour scheme is used on all variants of the MCH as it is applied to the shell and rails by default.
(**) This camouflage/colour scheme only applies to the mesh net. The helmet's shell always uses a Sand colour scheme.
Trivia[]
- The design of Expeditionary Forces' MCH is based on the real-world "Modular Integrated Communications Helmet" (MICH)[1][2], though it is modelled after a copy of the MICH rather than a genuine mil-spec version.[3]
- The camouflage patterns used for the mesh nets on in-game MCHs is a slightly altered version of the U.S. Marine Corps' real MARPAT camouflage.[4] Because MARPAT camouflage is a patented design, the DLC specifically uses a customised derivative that lacks the embedded Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) symbol for licencing reasons.[5][6]
- The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
- The DLC's developers initially tested the implementation of functional infrared marker tabs on the MCH.[7] However, this idea was scrapped because the Real Virtuality engine does not support having emissive textures that only glow under specific vision modes (the textures will always glow even without night vision).[8]
