NOTE: This article is about MACV-SOG Mk18 Mod 0 grenade launchers in ArmA 3's S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC. For Mk18 battle rifles in ArmA 3 itself, see Mk18 ABR. |
« | The Mk18 Mod 0 is a hand-operated 40mm belt-fed grenade launcher, normally with a 24 round box magazine. It was used in the Vietnam war by the US Navy, US Navy SEALs and Special Forces. You will find it mounted on vehicles, gunboats, tripods, and occasionally on helicopters. It has a very effective range and rate of fire for assaults and perimeter defense. Field Manual

The Mk18 Mod 0 is a 40 mm grenade launcher used exclusively by MACV-SOG forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
The Mk18 Mod 0 is a hand-cranked grenade launcher turret that fires 40 mm grenade rounds.
It feeds primarily from 24-round belts loaded with high-explosive (HE) grenades[CfgWp 4], and can attain a fire rate of up to 200 rounds per minute[CfgWp 5][Formula 1] with a muzzle velocity of 241 m/s.[CfgMa 2]
The launcher provides the gunner with a simple ironsight that is unmagnified and cannot toggle enhanced vision modes. Mk18s are always pre-loaded with one belt by default and have access to a further 5 belts spare, providing a total of 144 grenades.[CfgVh 3] It takes 15 seconds to rearm the Mk18 with a fresh belt of grenades.[CfgWp 6]
Static Mk18s can only be mounted onto low tripods and do not have an alternate raised version. The tripod allows for the Mk18 to be rotated in any direction horizontally.[CfgVh 4][CfgVh 5] However, it limits vertical rotation to 35 degrees for elevation[CfgVh 6] and only 15 degrees for depression.[CfgVh 7]
If the Mk18 needs to be relocated, it can be disassembled into man-portable backpacks. The Mk18 will be split into separate backpacks in the form of the weapon itself and the tripod mount.[CfgVh 8] Both components are required in order to reassemble the turret.[CfgVh 9]
Ironsights[]

It is not possible to manually adjust zeroing on the Mk18 Mod 0. The yellow bead on the front sight post represents the approximate point of impact for area targets located at distances of roughly 400 metres.[CfgWp 7][CfgWp 8]
Camouflage[]
- Black: All-black paint scheme. Used by U.S. Special Forces and Navy SEAL Mk18s.
- Green: Olive green paint scheme. Exclusive to U.S. Army Mk18s.
Both colour schemes are available in alternate Dirty variants that have dirtied textures.
Ammunition[]
Parameter | Value |
---|---|
Base damage value | 80[CfgAm 1] |
Splash damage value | 8[CfgAm 2] |
Warhead type | High-Explosive [CfgAm 3] |
Blast radius (metres) | 6[CfgAm 4] |
Muzzle velocity (m/s) | 241[CfgMa 2] |
Excluding vehicle mounted Mk18 Mod 0s[note 2], standalone turret Mk18s are limited to feeding from only one type of "magazine":[CfgWp 4]
M406 40mm HE (24)[]
24-round belt stored in an ammobox loaded with M406 grenades that are fitted with high-explosive (HE) warheads.[CfgMa 3] They have a blast radius of 6 metres.[CfgAm 4]
They have a minimum fuse range of 15 metres. Grenades impacting the terrain under this distance will not explode.[CfgAm 5] The grenade also has a maximum timer of 20 seconds; it will automatically disappear if it does not hit a hard surface within that timeframe.[CfgAm 6]
Trivia[]
- Mk18 Mod 0s were not originally available as part of S.O.G.'s launch assets. They were only added after the release of Update 1.2.[1]
- Prior to Update 1.3, it was not possible to unflip Mk18s that were tipped over to their side either because they were assembled on sloped terrain or were knocked over by an indirect explosion.[2]
- The user's hand isn't fully synced with the animation of the hand crank and will be slightly delayed whenever it rotates.

Notes[]
- ↑ Dexterity is defined within the weapon's config but it does not apply since the LATGM is a static turret.
- ↑ Static Mk18 Mod 0 turrets can technically feed from 48-round grenade belt "magazines" used by their vehicle-mounted counterparts. However, this is only possible if scripting commands are specifically used to add these 48-round "magazines" to Mk18 turrets.
