Modrava is a settlement located in the Independent Republic of Nogova.

Overview[]

Home to the largest industrial harbour in Nogova[1], Modrava is located on the north-western side of the island. Modrava mostly consists of double-storey houses, a plaza, and a tall apartment building in the centre of town.

The settlement of Bludov is located only a short distance away to its east. Heading south along the main road will eventually lead to the city of Petrovice (via Mírov). The eastern road on the other hand will lead to the village of Mokropsy.

History[]

On August 24th, 1982[2], a force of anti-Soviet partisans led by Victor Troska attacked Modrava in an attempt to liberate the town.[3] To the shock of the Soviet garrison, Troska's fighters had deployed a platoon of tanks to aid in their offensive. Some of these medium and heavy tanks had actually been stolen the day prior from the depot at Trosky.[4]

Additionally, a separate squad of guerillas had set up firing positions on the hills to the north and east of Modrava.[5] While Troska's armoured units smashed through the main defensive line, the grenadiers bombarded the outpost with their grenades until they ran out.[6] Now outgunned by the partisans, the garrison stood no chance at halting their attack. Not long after the battle commenced, the partisans succeeded in eliminating the bulk of Soviet defenders.[7]

The Soviets did not immediately respond to Modrava's fall.[7] Instead, they eventually deployed a response force four days later on August 28th.[2][8] Despite being pitted against the odds, the partisans were ready for the counterattack and eventually managed to drive off the Soviets for good.[9]

At the height of Nogova's occupation, Soviet troops had established a series of tents to serve as a barracks for the town's mechanised infantry garrison.[3]

It also doubled as a field hospital and repair/supply depot for the garrison's armoured fighting vehicles. The outpost was destroyed on August 24th, 1982[2], after anti-Soviet partisans succeeded in capturing the town.[7]

It's high time to put it all together and find out what we're capable of... The Soviet base in Modrava was established fairly recently. So far, they've settled most of their troops in the town, and pitched some tents nearby, most likely for infantry squads. We're going to engage from a hill near Bludov. Although there are some fortifications in the way, these shouldn't be a problem for our tanks."

We've secured the town and the port to the North of island, and the Soviets are sending a respectable army against us. We'll give them short shrift, of course, but... are we up to it yet? Our main goal is to defend the town. The secondary goal is to cause as much damage as possible to the enemy. We're still weak, though, so my chocie of strategy will be critical. A frontal attack could be a disaster..."
