NOTE: This article is about the up-armoured Offroad in the semi-official Western Sahara Creator DLC. For its baseline unarmoured counterpart in ArmA 3 itself, see Offroad. |
The Offroad UP is an all-terrain, light commercial vehicle used by several BLUFOR, REDFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Western Sahara Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- Roles:
- Troop transport
- Fire support

Design[]
Fitted with a snorkel to filter out sand and protected by improvised bolt-on armour kits, the Offroad is specially outfitted for operating in desert environments.
Features
It is available in three variants: the baseline (unarmed) troop carrier, and two armed variants with either a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun or a 73 mm recoilless rifle attached onto the flatbed with a rotatable tripod mount.
Additionally, all variants of the Offroad UP have been fitted with bolt-on armour kits. These improvised armour plates surround the cab's roof, the bumper, front windshield, side and rear windows of the cab, the bonnet, as well as both sides of the rear flatbed. They are impervious to bullet projectiles in calibres of up to and including 7.62 mm (both NATO and non-NATO).
Thanks to its armour plates, passengers can return fire from the safety of the flatbed.
Mobility
Its improvised armour package doubles the Offroad UP's gross weight. This results in a sharp reduction to the Offroad UP's turn rate and also cuts its top speed by nearly 27%, reducing it from 200 km/h to a hard maximum of only 152 km/h.
Drawbacks
Aside from increased armour, the Offroad UP remains functionally identical to its unarmoured baseline counterpart.
This armour also offers only a sliver of protection from infantry small arms; hits from large calibre projectiles (e.g. 12.7 mm sniper rounds or .338 marksman rifles) and anti-vehicle grenades will still pierce the plates and severely injure or outright kill the vehicle's occupants.
Furthermore, the plates attached to the front windshield and side windows will obstruct the visibility of both the driver and front cab passenger. Though they can still see through small hatches in the plate (and raise it for a larger view), this decreases the driver's situational awareness and makes it much harder for them to spot peripheral threats.
At the same time, these small gaps in the plates represent a liability as an errant bullet can potentially go through the gap and strike the driver. Splash damage caused by explosive ordnance can also seep through these gaps since the glass behind the plates are not explosive or ballistic-resistant.
Crew Capacity
All variants allow for both the driver and a single passenger who sits in the front-right seat. Support for additional passengers or crew depends on whether the variant has armament fitted to the rear flatbed.
Variants[]

This is the only variant that is available to UNA peacekeepers.
This variant has a gross weight of 2810.91 kg.

The HMG is pre-loaded with a single 100-round belt box and has three extra belt boxes in reserve (for a combined total of 400 rounds). This variant only supports a single passenger who is seated in the front-right seat of the cab.
This variant has a gross weight of 2905.91 kg.

The recoilless rifle has access to either 12 PG-9N high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) or 8 OG-9VM high-explosive (HE) rounds. It transports the same number of passengers as the HMG variant.
This variant has a gross weight of 2862.33 kg.
Camouflage[]
NOTE: Only camouflage schemes available on Western Sahara's Offroad UP are shown. For a full list of camouflage schemes available on ArmA 3's default Offroad, refer to its dedicated section here.
- Green: Flat olive green paint finish.
- Black: All-black paint colour scheme.
- UNA:* Flat white colour scheme with black letters ("UNA") painted over both doors, the roof of the cab, and tailgate/rear bumper. Exclusive to the United Assistance peacekeeping contingent.
- Beige: Pattern-less beige paint scheme.
- SFIA: Semi-arid camouflage pattern scheme.
(*) Exclusive to UNA peacekeepers and is not available on armed variants.
Protection[]
All variants of the Offroad UP have a base armour value of 120.
The following highlighted positions serve as weak points on Offroad UPs:
LEGEND
Green = Body
Orange = Engine
Violet = Fuel tank
Weak point locations are identical on all variants regardless of the flatbed's contents.
Body[]
The vehicle body on all Offroad UP variants can withstand up to 120 points of damage. It takes 150% additional damage from high-explosive (HE) type munitions. Depletion of the body's integrity will result in a catastrophic kill.
Engine[]
The engine is able to survive a maximum of 480 points of damage before failing. It takes 50% less damage from HE-type munitions. Only 50% of incoming damage will be shared with the vehicle's main "health" pool. Depletion of its integrity may result in a catastrophic kill if the Offroad UP is in critical status.
If damaged: Reduces power output, acceleration is decreased and it may become impossible to climb uphill.
If destroyed: Instantly immobilises the Offroad UP.
Fuel tank[]
The fuel tank can withstand 240 points of damage before it ruptures. Only 10% of incoming damage is shared with the Offroad UP's "health" pool, though it also takes 150% additional damage from HE-type munitions.
If damaged: Gradually leak up to 10% of current fuel capacity over time.
If destroyed: Depletes entire fuel supply over the course of several seconds.
Wheels[]
Each of the four tyres can take up to 120 points of damage before they burst. They incur a 400% additional damage penalty from HE-type munitions. However, no damage will be shared with the Offroad UP's main "health" pool.
Depending on which tyres are remaining, it is still possible to continue driving straight (with some difficulty) even if two out of four tyres are missing.
Components[]
NOTE: Cosmetic-only component modules with no gameplay effects are deliberately excluded from this section.
- Hide left door: Removes or reattaches the left side driver door.
- Hide right door: Removes or reattaches the right side passenger door.
- Hide shield: Installs or removes the M2 HMG's ballistic-resistant gunshield (HMG variant only).
- Hide front armor: Installs or removes the armour plates attached to the bumper and bonnet.
- Close left hatch: Lowers or raises the windshield's viewport (driver side)
- Close right hatch: Lowers or raises the windshield's viewport (passenger side).
Armament[]
On armed variants of the Offroad UP, the gunner exclusively handles the mounted heavy weapon; either the 12.7 mm-chambered M2 HMG .50 heavy machine gun or SPG-9 73 mm recoilless rifle.
In both cases, horizontal rotation limits are a full 360 degrees but vertically it varies depending on the weapon mount; for the M2 it is a depression of 10 degrees and elevation of 40 degrees, while the SPG-9 has a depression of only 5 degrees and an elevation of 20 degrees:
M2 HMG .50[]
NOTE: Only available on the Offroad (UP, HMG) variant.
- Main article: M2#ArmA 3
General-purpose .50 cal heavy machine gun.
Useful against infantry and unarmoured/lightly-armoured ground vehicles, as well as low-flying helicopters. It takes 10 seconds to reload a fresh belt box.
SPG-9[]
NOTE: Only available on the Offroad (UP, AT) variant.
- Main article: SPG-9#ArmA 3
73 mm recoilless anti-tank gun. Can load either HE or AP-type grenades.
The gunner can look through the SPG-9's sight which has a fixed magnification zoom (night vision goggles cannot be worn while looking through the sight). It can have its zeroing adjusted manually beginning at 100 m all the way up to 400 m, before jumping to 600 m, 800 m, 1000 m, 1200 m and lastly 1500 m.
