« Despite being very old by now, these WW2 Soviet combat helmets still find their use in less well equipped militaries all over the world.

The Old Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by several BLUFOR, REDFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Western Sahara Creator DLC.

Overview[]

A steel helmet of Soviet origin, the Old Helmet is the standard-issue combat helmet of North African CSAT military forces, pro-government SFIA paramilitaries, and even some Tura tribesmen and UNA peacekeepers.

It is rated at Level II protection standards. Old Helmets have a weight of 30 "mass" units.[CfgWp 1] Despite its age, the Old Helmet's protective attributes are comparable to the modern (but less outdated) Modular and Basic Helmets. It will allow the wearer to survive a (non-point blank range) hit from a 5.56 mm/6.5 mm bullet. Beyond 200 metres, the wearer can even survive hits from some (but not all) 7.62 mm-chambered assault rifles.

Camouflage[]

  • Black: All-black colour scheme.
  • Blue: Light blue colour scheme with a slightly darkened shell.
  • Green: Olive green colour scheme.
  • Sand: Tan colour scheme.
  • White: Pearl white colour scheme.
  • UNA: Light blue shell with UNA initials imprinted onto the front and rear.

Trivia[]

  • The Old Helmet is based on the Soviet "SSh-40" steel helmet.[1]
  • Old Helmets will automatically replace Caps worn by North African CSAT forces when the Creator DLC is loaded. However, North African forces in Tac-Ops' Stepping Stone mini-campaign remain unaffected and will continue to wear their default gear.

    Hidden Police variant.

There is a hidden variant (Classname: lxWS_H_ssh40_police) with a flat white colour scheme that has POLICE written in both Arabic and English on both sides of the shell.[2] However, it cannot normally be equipped in-game without the use of scripting commands or a custom addon.
