Operation Crimson Lance (2012) was a two day-long counterinsurgency offensive conducted by NATO forces in the Green Sea nation of Takistan.
Background[]
In the weeks that followed the UN-mandated Operation Arrowhead, remnants of the Takistani Army - still loyal to the country's former ruler, mounted a series of escalating attacks against coalition forces and the new civilian government in Takmyr.
The post-invasion stabilisation force found itself under increasing pressure, and was stretched thin protecting United Nations Forces Takistan (UNFORT) Green Zones, as well as supporting New Takistani Army (NTA) government forces. To counter the growing threat, NATO high command authorised the deployment of additional reinforcements.
Spearheading the troop surge are the British Armed Forces, with several companies from the British Army's 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) along with supporting units from the 16th Air Assault Brigade (16 Air Asslt Bde) primarily leading the offensive.
Codenamed Operation Crimson Lance, their primary goal was not just to aid in the post-invasion reconstruction efforts, but also to root out the pro-Aziz remnants once and for all.
Western intelligence sources believed that the remnants had a base hidden somewhere within the country's Central highlands. British efforts would be primarily focused on tracking down the source of the remnant army's attacks.

Aftermath[]
With the loss of their only remaining base of operations, the pro-Aziz remnants were decisively routed, and would be unable to mount further attacks against the government.
However, although Operation Crimson Lance had been a decisive success for NATO, it proved to be a short-lived and premature victory. Little could be done to halt the country's gradual slide into chaos in the months that followed. By early 2013, the overall situation in Takistan had deteriorated rapidly. Coalition forces found themselves bogged down yet again by another insurgency; not from pro-Aziz remnants, but from local tribesmen whom they had once fought alongside.
Once considered pro-NATO, many of the tribes throughout the country had grown increasingly discontent with the excessive, heavy-handed approach the government in Takmyr were taking towards them. Bitter resentment against the presence of NATO forces, had also led to a rise in anti-foreigner sentiments.
The NTA had also grown bloated, and corruption was rife at all levels of command throughout the organisation. Many senior officers had become self-styled "warlords" who essentially led their own private armies. They no longer acted on orders from Takmyr, but took commands from whichever tribe they were affiliated to or simply, from the highest bidder.
NATO forces were also facing internal dissent from their home countries. As coalition casualties continued to mount, public opinion turned against supporting the deployment. In the U.K., numerous White Papers suggested withdrawing Western troops and outsourcing the contingent's duties to mercenaries from various private military companies.
By June 2013, the bulk of coalition troops had been pulled out of Takistan, leaving behind only a skeleton force to maintain watch over the country's secured Green Zones. PMCs would begin to take over and supplant the widening security gap left by the NATO drawdown.
