The P2A1 26.5 mm flare gun.

The P2A1 is a 26.5 mm flare gun used by both West German and Danish military forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.

Overview[]

The P2A1 is a single-shot, break action 26.5 mm flare gun.

It is designed to load either individual flare/smoke or multi-star flare 26.5 mm rounds. It can attain a fire rate of up to 240 rounds per minute and has a muzzle velocity of 240 m/s. The P2A1 cannot be fitted with any optical sights or attachments.

A harmless signal/illumination pistol, the P2A1 is often carried as a sidearm by West German and Danish military squad leaders and officers. Other than to provide lighting under nighttime or poor lighting conditions, the P2A1 serves no other purpose and naturally isn't designed for direct combat.

Ironsights[]

The P2A1 does not provide the user with a pair of ironsights. It cannot be manually zeroed.

Ammunition[]

NOTE: Although not explicitly designed to do so, the P2A1 can share its 26.5 mm round types with the East German LP1 (and vice versa).

Composition Duration (seconds) Initial velocity (m/s) No. of flares
Smoke 60 180 N/A
Flare (Single) 20 160 1
Flare (Multi) 20 180 4

The P2A1 can be loaded with twenty types of flare and smoke shells. All only contain a single round to fire, though they can disperse either individual or 4-star "clusters" depending on the variant loaded.

No matter the type, they all weigh an identical "mass" of 8 units each:

Flare[]

Signalling/illumination flare round. Available in either white (DM15), red (DM13), green (DM11) or yellow (DM10) colour varieties. Multi-star flare rounds are designated as DM25 (white), DM23 (red), DM21 (green) and DM20 (yellow).

There are also two other unique types of flare rounds; a parachute flare variant labelled as the DM16 (coloured exclusively in yellow) and an NBC hazard warning flare designated as the DM47.

Smoke[]

Concealment/marking smoke round. Available in either yellow (DM19), orange (DM22) or purple (DM24) colour varieties.

Trivia[]

Full of starchy goodness!

  • Amusingly, the in-game P2A1 has a separate, so-called "P2A1 Experimental" joke variant that is capable of launching 265 centimetre (not 26.5 millimetre) potato chunks instead of harmless smoke/flare rounds.[1]
    • Unlike the non-lethal pistol variant, the P2A1 Experimental is carried as an auxiliary launcher-type weapon rather than as a sidearm.
    • The potato chunks are highly lethal to infantry and can even penetrate through the frontal armour of heavy tanks. At point blank range, two potato "rockets" on any part of a tank is sufficient to inflict a catastrophic kill.
  • According to a Q&A video published by Vertexmacht[2], the P2A1 Experimental's "creation" was the result of an accident by Vertexmacht's developers when the team was in the process of implementing the asset.[3]
    • The developers found the model's exaggerated proportions amusing and decided to expand on it, creating unique animations and even "ammunition" for it in the form of its potatoes.[4]
    • It was then demonstrated to Bohemia Interactive's Quality Assurance team who actually requested that the P2A1 Experimental be included into the final release.[5]

I imported the P2 flare gun but forgot that I scaled it up ten times for set up and to, to check some animation stuff because it just illustrates better in the tool when it's bigger and I forgot to downscale it before I got it in-game."
