The PLDvK-53/59 "Lizard" is a static anti-aircraft gun emplacement used exclusively by the ČSLA in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the CSLA Iron Curtain Creator DLC.

Overview[]

The PLDvK-53/59 is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun based on the older towed M53. It uses twin 30 mm autocannons mounted on a gun base with an armoured shell, and feeds from vertical 50-round magazines instead of belts.

By default, static PLDvK-53/59s have access to five 100-round magazines worth of armour-piercing incendiary (API) shells stored in separate twin magazines.

Additionally, three magazines containing high-explosive fragmentation (HE-F) shells are also provided. In total, this amounts to 500 API and 300 HE-F rounds for the gunner to utilise.

The twin autocannons can achieve a fire rate of up to ~ 842 rounds per minute. Muzzle velocity varies depending on the type of magazines loaded. It takes a minimum of 8 seconds to reload magazines or to the swap munition types.

PLDvK-53/59s have an effective firing range of approximately 2,000 metres, though it is technically possible to hit targets as distant as 3,000 metres when the loaded with API shells. The gunner only has access to a day sight which is not capable of toggling enhanced vision modes.

The autocannons can be manually zeroed starting at a minimum of 200 metres up to a maximum of 2,000 metres. Between the ranges of 200-400 metres, adjustments are made in increments/decrements of 100 metres. At 400 metres, this jumps to 200 metres between the ranges of 400-1,000 metres. Lastly at 1,000 metres, any further adjustments are made in jumps of 250 metres.

The turret base allows the autocannons to be swivelled in all directions horizontally. However, vertical limits are more strict, allowing for a maximum elevation of 85 degrees and a depression of only 4 degrees.

Static PLDvK-53/59 turrets have access to two types of magazines:

2× 50× 30mm API-T[]

100-round magazine consisting of 30-JPZSv-53 armour-piercing incendiary (API) 30 mm shells. Highly effective against light/medium-armoured ground vehicles.

30-JPZSv-53 shells have a muzzle velocity of 1,000 m/s, can penetrate ~ 67 millimetres of armour plating, and has a spill radius of 0.3 metres. Every third round fired comprises of a visible tracer. Only the last five rounds of the magazine consists solely of tracers.

2× 50× HE-F-T[]

Alternate 100-round magazine loaded with 30-JOFSv-53 high-explosive fragmentation (HE-F) shells. Strong against helicopters and low-flying planes as well as infantry and unarmoured ground vehicles.

30-JOFSv-53 shells specifically have a lower muzzle velocity of 970 m/s and are partially armour piercing, being capable of punching through approximately ~ 14 millimetres of armour. As with API magazines, the third round fired will always be a tracer while the last five rounds are exclusively tracers.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to CDLC Hotfix #2, the PLDvK-53/59's 30-JPZSv-53 API shells were much weaker and dealt significantly less base damage.
