The Pistol IR Laser Pointer is an infrared laser sight attachment used exclusively by NATO forces in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Reaction Forces Creator DLC.
Design[]
The Pistol IR Laser Pointer is a compact laser light module that emits an infrared beam only visible on night vision.[CfgWp 2] It is supported on any pistol that has a compatible rail mount:
Although the Pistol IR Laser Pointer and its Flashlight counterpart are visually identical, the two attachments are considered to be standalone accessories. They must be attached separately onto the weapon in order to project either an IR laser or an IR light.
It should be noted that attaching the Pistol IR Laser Pointer to a weapon will increase its inertia penalty by +0.1.[CfgWp 3]
Camouflage[]
- Black: Matte black finish.
Trivia[]
- In regular unmodified gameplay, the Pistol IR Laser Pointer is considered to be a standalone attachment that does not allow for the user to change whether it projects an IR laser or a light beam on the fly.
- However, Reaction Forces' Pistol IR Laser Pointer is set up to be compatible with community-created custom addons that allow for switching between laser/flashlight projection modes. Should a supported addon like the "Community Based Addons" (or "CBA_A3" for short) be activated alongside the Reaction Forces Creator DLC, it will be possible to switch between the Pistol IR Laser Pointer and the Pistol IR Flashlight, thereby simulating its dual laser light feature.[1][2]
- The Pistol IR Laser Pointer's textures were slightly improved after Update 1.0.1's release. Shadows were baked into the texture to give it slightly more depth compared to its "flat" original appearance.[3]
- The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
- Without custom addons, it is not possible to toggle between the laser and flashlight versions of the Pistol IR Laser Pointer/Pistol IR Flashlight attachments. However, there are leftover config tokens[4] and scripts[5] that reference a non-existent script function, suggesting that an attempt at natively implementing the functionality into the DLC was possibly trialled at some point in development.
