» |
Planes Start is the thirty-fourth mission of ArmA: Cold War Assault's Cold War Crisis campaign.

Overview[]
The player controls U.S. Army aviator Captain Sam Nichols. Rogue Soviet leader General Aleksei Guba has refused to back down from his threats to attack Everon and Malden again. To put a decisive halt to the rogue General's plans, Colonel Blake has ordered Nichols' squadron to neutralise his ground forces in preparation for a land invasion of Kolgujev.
Nichols' role/class:
- Air / Pilot
Default loadout:
- Primary weapon: XM-177E2 (4× magazines)
- Secondary weapon: None
- Equipment: NV Goggles, Grenades (6×)
There are no alternate pieces of equipment to choose from.
Objectives[]
Primary[]
- (1) Head North East of Everon over the sea
- (2) Eliminate all enemy armor in Southern Kolgujev
Optional[]
N/A
Mandatory[]
- Nichols must survive
- Avoid collateral damage/friendly fire
- Do not collide with your wingmen
- Do not eject from the jet
- Do not harm any of the airbase's personnel
Walkthrough[]
Although you're assigned "objectives", the only requirement for this first half of a two-part mission is to take off from the airbase on Malden.
Hop into the cockpit of the third and last jet on the taxiway and roll forward until you get to the main runway. Once you're in position to take off, go to full power and pull up when ready.
Continue tailing your squadron leader and head east over the ocean towards Kolgujev. Don't forget to retract your landing gear and keep both flaps up to maintain maximum speed.
Trivia[]
- Due to technical limitations (not to mention the actual distance between the two islands), the mission is deliberately split into two parts as Kolgujev is a separate terrain that isn't "connected" to Malden's landmass.
- The official Armaverse Timeline states that Planes Start canonically takes place on July 2nd rather than the 3rd (as shown in-game).[1]
