The 2B14 Podnos is an 82 mm static mortar featured in ArmA 2 and ARMA Reforger.
ArmA 2[]
« | The Podnos (in English: Tray) 2C14 is a Russian 82 mm mortar. It was designed as a supporting weapon for motorized rifle companies and its goal is to destroy and suppress enemy infantry. Armoury Description[1]
|
» |
The 2B14 Podnos is used by several BLUFOR, REDFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 2.
Overview[]
The 2B14 is a man-portable 82 mm static mortar.
Like its American-made counterpart, the 2B14 can launch one shell every 4 seconds (averaging ~ 15 rounds per minute).[A2CfgW 1][Formula 1] Each mortar always contains a stockpile of 8 high-explosive (HE) shells.[A2CfgV 1] It takes only 5 seconds to fully rearm once all of its shells are been depleted.[A2CfgW 2]
It can be unpacked into a man-portable backpack form for ease of transport. Once broken down, the 2B14 will be split into two components: the mortar tube and its supporting bipod. Both parts are required to rebuild the 2B14, necessitating either a vehicle to store the second component or another team member to carry it as a backpack.[note 1]
The 2B14 serves as a lightweight counterpart to the much larger D-30 self-propelled howitzer. Unlike the latter, the 2B14's 81 mm mortars lack its firepower but compensates by being much more flexible, as the 2B14 can be disassembled into backpack form and relocated as the user requires.
However, the 2B14 is statistically inferior when it is matched up against its American-made counterpart. For instance, the 2B14 has significantly less range (maximum range of 4,078 metres versus the M252's maximum of 6,021 metres), its mortars are launched with a slightly lower velocity of only 200 m/s[A2CfgM 1], and the blast radii of its explosive shells are also smaller by 2 metres.[A2CfgA 1]
Munitions[]
The 2B14 only supports being loaded with one type of shell:
Parameter | Value |
---|---|
Base damage value | 165[A2CfgA 2] |
Splash damage value | 52[A2CfgA 3] |
Warhead type | High-Explosive |
Blast radius (metres) | 18[A2CfgA 1] |
Launch velocity (m/s) | 200[A2CfgM 1] |
The 2B14 can load and fire VO-832DU mortars fitted with high-explosive (HE) warheads.[A2CfgM 2] VO-832DUs are always launched with a velocity of 200 m/s.[A2CfgM 1] They have a blast radius of 18 metres.[A2CfgA 1]
Regardless of the selected firing solution, the 2B14 can load and fire an VO-832DU once every 4 seconds (fire rate of 15 RPM).[A2CfgW 1][Formula 1] It needs at least 5 seconds to fully rearm its stockpile of VO-832DUs from a supply truck/ammunition crate.[A2CfgW 2]
The 2B14's mount/baseplate allows for the mortar to be freely rotated in either direction horizontally.[A2CfgV 2][A2CfgV 3] However, vertical rotation limits are restricted to a maximum elevation of 30 degrees[A2CfgV 4] and a depression of just 10 degrees.[A2CfgV 5]
Capabilities[]
The 2B14 has three firing solutions available:[A2CfgW 3][note 2]
- Semi (close): Minimum range of 86 metres, maximum range of 499 metres (ETA 14-10 seconds). Mortars fired with this solution have their propellant charges reduced, lowering their velocity to 70 m/s.[A2CfgW 4][Formula 2]
- Semi (medium): Minimum range of 347 metres, maximum range of 1,998 metres (ETA 28-22 seconds). Mortars fired with this solution have their propellant charges reduced, lowering their velocity to 140 m/s.[A2CfgW 5][Formula 3]
- Semi (far): Minimum range of 708 metres, maximum range of 4,078 metres (ETA 40-32 seconds). Mortars fired with this solution are launched at their full velocity (200 m/s).[A2CfgW 6][Formula 4]
Assuming there is no delay between launches, the 2B14 can fire all eight of its shells in under ~ 32 seconds.[Formula 5] Time on target (TOT) fire missions are possible for overlaps that occur between the ranges of 347 metres-499 metres (for the Close and Medium firing solutions) and 708 metres-1,998 metres (for the Medium and Far firing solutions).

Trivia[]
- Like all pre-Operation Arrowhead static turrets, Russian/Chernarussian 2B14s cannot be disassembled into a man-portable backpack form while Czech/Takistani versions are able to do so.
- This is because static weapon unpacking/assembly was not added until the expansion pack's release. Russian and Chernarussian 2B14s were not given this capability as no Russian military, CDF or ChDKZ units can "carry" backpacks (unlike their Takistani counterparts).
- The 2B14 did not have access to an artillery computer until the release of Patch 1.08 for ArmA 2 (pre-Operation Arrowhead).[2]
- There are actually five more types of mortar shell "magazines" that the 2B14 can load if they are added with the help of scripting commands.[3][4][5][6][7] However, these "magazines" are not meant to be used by the M252 in regular gameplay as they are configured specifically for use by the Artillery module[8] and Simple Support Module[9].
- Alongside the M252, the 2B14 is one of first two static mortars in the series.

ARMA Reforger[]
![]() |
The 2B14 is used by both Soviet military forces and FIA guerillas in ARMA Reforger.
Trivia[]
- Reforger's iteration of the 2B14 was originally meant to be added into the game with the release of the Final Strike milestone.[10] After the roadmap was refactored on October 14th, 2023, its addition was pushed earlier into the Air Assault milestone instead.[11]
- For unknown reasons, the FIA only have access to the 2B14 mortar emplacement composition but not to standalone 2B14 turrets in Reforger's Game Master asset list.

Notes[]
- ↑ Does not apply to Russian/Chernarussian 2B14s. Only Takistani 2B14s can be disassembled into a backpack form as ArmA 2's Russian/Chernarussian units do not have the ability to carry backpacks.
- ↑ Three additional firing solutions are actually defined for the 2B14. However, these "modes" are hidden to human players and can only be utilised by AI-controlled 2B14s.
