Armed Assault Wiki

The Press Vest is a ballistic-resistant vest in ArmA 3.

Overview[]

The Press Vest is designed specifically for news reporters and journalists operating in active war zones. It has a weight of 40 "mass" units[CfgWp 1] but provides only 40 units of space for ammunition/items.[CfgWp 2]

It is rated at Level II protection standards and covers the wearer's chest, diaphragm, abdomen and pelvis. Compared to most non-milspec body armour vests, the Press Vest offers surprisingly decent protection from ballistic projectiles. The wearer will be able to survive a direct hit to the chest from a 6.5 mm bullet at point blank range. Thanks to the addition of a pelvic guard, the wearer is also guaranteed some degree of safety from small explosives.

Nonetheless, it is important to note that the Press Vest is not a replacement for milspec plate carriers that are similarly designed to offer ballistic/explosive protection. At the same time, its meagre item capacity limit of 40 "mass" is even less than that of plate carriers without pouches, rendering it practically useless for carrying spare ammunition.

Trivia[]

  • The Press Vest was not initially available upon ArmA 3's release and was only added after the campaign's third episode was completed as part of Game Update 1.14.[1]
  • Despite having a neck/collar protector modelled, the in-game Press Vest does not actually offer any protection to the wearer's neck.
