« | A lightweight, air-cooled, selective fire, delayed blowback operated submachine gun with a roller-delayed bolt. The compact size, accuracy and high rate of fire of the Protector are highly regarded and the gun is used in many variants by numerous military, law enforcement, intelligence and security organizations all around the world. The Protector is a 9 mm submachine gun used by both the Tanoan Gendarmerie and L'Ensemble guerillas in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Apex DLC.
Overview[]
The Protector is a compact submachine gun chambered to fire the 9×21 mm round that uses a delayed roller locked bolt operation.
It loads from 30-round curved box magazines (shared with the Sting SMG), and can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 895 rounds per minute[CfgWp 7][Formula 1] with a muzzle velocity of 375 m/s.[CfgWp 8] The Protector accepts accessories on its top[CfgWp 9] and side[CfgWp 10] rails and can also mount a 9 mm sound suppressor onto its muzzle.[CfgWp 11]
Performance-wise, the Protector is lacklustre and is completely outclassed by every other SMG. It does not have the negligible recoil of the PDW2000 when firing on full auto, the fire rate of the Vermin/Sting, nor the accuracy and superior stopping power of the ADR-97.
Its sole upside is that it retains slightly more energy than the Sting at longer ranges due to having a meagre ~ 1% higher muzzle velocity of 375 m/s (versus the Sting's 370 m/s).[CfgWp 8] But even this advantage is redundant at best due to its poor accuracy and the fact that they are both chambered for the same (very weak) 9 mm cartridge.[CfgAm 1] As a result, the Protector effectively has no positive qualities that would justify it as a better option against other SMGs in its class.
Ironsights[]

The Protector's ironsights allow for manual zeroing between two[note 1] fixed range settings (either 100 metres or 200 metres).[CfgWp 12] By default, it is always zeroed to 200 metres.[CfgWp 13] Neither the rear nor the front sight is illuminated.
If an optic is attached onto the top rail, the Protector will only allow it to be zeroed up to an absolute maximum of 200 metres.[CfgWp 14] The optic cannot be zeroed beyond that range even if it supports a higher limit (e.g. DMS).[note 2]

The Protector can load up to four types of magazines.[CfgWp 15] These magazines are fully interchangeable with the Sting but not with the PDW2000. They all share the same weight of 10 "mass" units:[CfgMa 6][CfgMa 7][CfgMa 8][CfgMa 9]
9 mm 30Rnd Mag[]

Standard 30-round translucent box magazine designed for use with the Sting. It is loaded exclusively with 9 mm ball ammunition.[CfgMa 10]
None of the rounds fired will emit visible tracers.
9 mm 30Rnd Reload Tracer (Red) Mag[]

Alternate 30-round magazine loaded with a mix of 9 mm ball and red tracer ammunition.[CfgMa 11]
The last four rounds of this magazine will always emit visible red tracers.[CfgMa 12]
9 mm 30Rnd Reload Tracer (Green) Mag[]

Alternate 30-round magazine loaded with a mix of 9 mm ball and green tracer ammunition.[CfgMa 13]
The last four rounds of this magazine will always emit visible green tracers.[CfgMa 14]
9 mm 30Rnd Reload Tracer (Yellow) Mag[]

Alternate 30-round magazine loaded with a mix of 9 mm ball and yellow tracer ammunition.[CfgMa 15]
The last four rounds of this magazine will always emit visible yellow tracers.[CfgMa 16]

Trivia[]
- The Protector is based on the real-world "MP5K" submachine gun designed by Heckler & Koch GmbH of Germany[2] (parodied as a product of an Armaverse company named "Sovak Arms"[3]), but is fitted with the stock of an "MP5K-PDW" instead.[4]
- The model itself appears to be an upgraded port of the "SG5-K" submachine gun from DayZ, another title developed by Bohemia Interactive.
- The Protector was initially unable to mount side rail accessories despite the fact that it has rails modelled onto both sides of the handguard. This was later rectified with Game Update 1.66, which finally enabled accessories to be fitted onto those rails.[5]
- As of Game Update 1.92, the Protector loads the same translucent magazines used by the Sting and can no longer share them with the PDW2000.[6] But because the Protector itself was not updated to use the new magazine proxies system (nor did it get the ability to utilise magazine wells), the appearance of its magazines do not change to reflect this.
- Prior to Old Man, the Protector was exclusively utilised by the Gendarmerie. The mini-campaign's release would later show L'Ensemble anti-government fighters also using the SMG as part of their default arsenal.[7]

Notes[]
- ↑ The Protector's discreteDistance array has elements that would technically allow it be adjusted up to 600 metres. However, the maxZeroing token prevents this from being possible under normal circumstances as it forcibly caps zeroing to 200 metres.
- ↑ In the case of certain optical sights that have minimum zeroing limits greater than 200 metres such as the LRPS, the Protector will default to the optic's minimum zeroing setting even if it is higher than the 200 metre limit. However, zeroing settings will not be adjustable until the optic is removed.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 This initSpeed value only applies to the magazine itself. The Protector's initSpeed value always takes precedence since it is not defined as a coefficient.
- ↑ 4.0 4.1 4.2 4.3 Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
