NOTE: This article is about the Protector Helmet worn by CSAT forces in ArmA 3. For the Protector 9 mm submachine gun carried by Tanoan Gendarmerie officers, see Protector. |
The Protector Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet worn by CSAT forces in ArmA 3.
Overview[]
The Protector is the standard-issue combat helmet of both Mediterranean and Pacific CSAT soldiers. It has a weight of 40 "mass" units and is rated at Level III protection standards.
Unlike its NATO, AAF and LDF counterparts, the Protector can resist two hits from most 9 mm-chambered firearms or a single 6.5 mm rifle round. Though it is slightly heavier as a result and weighs 40 "mass" compared to the 30 of the former three, the Protector compensates with its better ballistic and blast protection.
Hitpoints[]
Body part | Base armour value | Damage reduction modifier (vs. ballistic) | Damage reduction modifier (vs. explosions) |
---|---|---|---|
Head | 8 | 50% | 50% |
Camouflage[]
- Hex: Arid Hexacam pattern. Used on Mediterranean CSAT Protectors.
- Urban: Urban Hexacam pattern. Exclusively used by Mediterranean CSAT Guards units only.
- Green Hex: Tropic Hexacam pattern. Used on Pacific CSAT Protectors.
Trivia[]
- The Protector appears to be a futuristic rendition of the "ZSh-1" helmet worn by Russian security forces, though its rear cable and retractable HUD pieces are completely fictitious.
- It actually shares the same model with the Defender Helmet with the exception of the Protector's retracted eyepieces (its model was changed to this style after Game Update 0.72's release[1]). In spite of this, the Defender somehow retains a higher base armour value than the Protector.
- At launch, the Protector Helmet provided significantly less protection and only had a base armour value of 3. Weight-wise, the original Protector was also heavier and weighed 40% more "mass" (60 versus the current 40). Changes were eventually made to both values after the release of Game Update 1.10[2], which completely refactored all faction helmets and other protective gear.[3]
- The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
- Official screenshots and gameplay demos released during the pre-Alpha phase of ArmA 3's development suggest there was originally a derivative of the Protector that had a Semi-Arid Hex camouflage scheme.[4][5]
