The SG542 is a 7.62 mm battle rifle that remains unused by any faction in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The SG542 is a derivative of the SG540 assault rifle that uses a fixed stock and is chambered to fire the 7.62×51 mm cartridge instead.
It loads from proprietary 20-round box magazines and has a muzzle velocity of 800 m/s. Its rate of fire varies depending on the selected fire mode; either ~ 652 (semi-auto) or 800 (burst/full auto) rounds per minute.
Through the use of an adapter, the SG542 can mount a variety of optical sights, IR/visible laser pointers, as well as flashlights. Additionally, the muzzle can be fitted with a 7.62 mm sound suppressor.
However, it should be noted that it is not possible to simultaneously mount an optic and a laser pointer/flashlight at the same time. Only one type of attachment may be fitted at any given time.
Variants[]
SG542 RIS[]

The RIS sub-variant uniquely features a Picatinny rail mounted onto the upper receiver. This change allows for a wider variety of Picatinny-compatible optics to be fitted onto the SG542, though it will partially obstruct the front sight if the user attempts to take aim using only the rifle's ironsights.
The same caveats concerning the choice of having either an optic or a laser pointer/flashlight (but not both at the same time) still apply to the RIS variant, as there are no additional rails attached onto any other part of the rifle.
Ironsights[]

If an optic with a zeroing limit greater than 400 metres is attached, the SG542 will allow for an absolute maximum zeroing of 1,000 metres.

If an optic with a zeroing limit greater than 400 metres is attached, the SG542 RIS will allow for an absolute maximum zeroing of 1,000 metres.
Camouflage[]
- Black: Grey finish with a black handguard, stock and pistol grip.
- Olive: Grey finish with an olive-coloured handguard, stock and pistol grip.

SG542s are able to load up to six types of magazines. All six magazines share the same weight of 14 "mass" units.
It should be noted that these magazines are exclusively designed to be used with the SG542 and are not interchangeable with other 7.62 mm NATO/DM21-chambered weapons:
7.62 mm 20Rnd SG542 Ball-T DM21 Black Mag[]

Standard 20-round box magazine.
All twenty rounds of the magazine will emit visible tracers.
7.62 mm 20Rnd SG542 Ball-T DM21A1 Black Mag[]

Alternate tracer magazine loaded with yellow-coloured tracers.
7.62 mm 20Rnd SG542 Ball-T DM21A2 Black Mag[]

Identical to the DM21A1-loaded tracer magazines but reverts to using red-coloured tracers instead.
7.62 mm 20Rnd SG542 Ball DM111 Black Mag[]

Loaded with DM111 rounds.
Has slightly reduced penetration against armour but retains energy better over long ranges.
7.62 mm 20Rnd SG542 Ball DM41 Black Mag[]

Loaded with DM41 rounds.
Statistically identical to regular DM21-loaded 20-rounders.
7.62 mm 20Rnd SG542 AP DM151 Black Mag[]

Armour piercing round intended for both ballistic vest-wearing infantry and lightly-armoured vehicles.
Trivia[]
- The SG542 was not originally included with the release of Global Mobilization. Both it and the SG550/551 were only added after Update 1.5.[1]
