« | Paired with force feedback vests worn under combat fatigues, the SIMCOM muzzle adapter allows soldiers to engage in realistic training simulations. This 6.5 mm model fits onto any NATO 6.5x39 mm muzzle, such as the MX rifle's. It allows the weapon to cycle while firing blank ammunition, but also has an integrated laser, which is used to register simulated hits on the feedback vests. As an extra safety feature, the adapter prevents an accidental live round to leave the barrel, although this does not replace safety discipline! Note: this gear is primarily cosmetic; limited features are only available in the context of Contact's campaign and gameplay. Field Manual

The SIMCOM Adapter is a muzzle-fitted weapon attachment in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of Contact DLC.
Overview[]
The SIMCOM Adapter is a training tool used to simulate realistic gunfights. It is available on all 6.5 mm-chambered weapon platforms (both NATO and non-NATO):
- CMR-76 bullpup marksman rifle
- Katiba/Katiba Carbine bullpup rifle/carbine
- Mk200 light machine gun
- The MX series of modular rifles
- The Promet series of modular bullpup rifles
- Type 115 special purpose rifle
To function properly, a weapon needs to have the adapter attached to its muzzle and be loaded with blank ammunition magazines. The participants of the training are also required to wear haptic feedback vests to simulate being hit by actual bullets. The SIMCOM Adapter then communicates with the vest to signal that the wearer has been shot.
Capabilities[]
The system works by examining the direction the weapon is pointing. If the weapon is pointed towards a target using the haptic feedback vest (i.e. a dummy target) and the wielder fires a blank round, the target will receive feedback notifying that they have been shot.
Compared to other training solutions such as paintballs, the SIMCOM Adapter allows soldiers to fire and experience their weapon as if it was firing real rounds. The fact that the actual weapon is used also makes it easier to train with the system. The SIMCOM Adapter can also calculate bullet trajectory, allowing users to train in a combat environment that remains as realistic as possible.
When loaded with a live round - accidentally or otherwise - the adapter has safety features in place to prevent the bullet from being discharged. However, this may or may not destroy the device in the process.
Trivia[]
- Concepts of training devices similar to the SIMCOM Adapter exist in real-life, though they are not nearly as advanced as depicted in ArmA 3.
- It should be noted that the SIMCOM Adapter is purely cosmetic outside of the First Contact campaign.
- When the Contact expansion was first released, the SIMCOM Adapter was restricted to only 6.5 mm NATO-chambered firearms; specifically, both the MX and Promet platforms.
- This was later changed by Game Update 2.02 after the patch addressed various compatibility issues with muzzle-type accessories. The patch granted all variants of the MX/Promet access to the SIMCOM Adapter instead of being restricted to a few sub-variants. All other 6.5 mm-chambered weapons (even those that are not technically considered to be of NATO standard) were also given access to the SIMCOM Adapter.[1]
- In the First Contact campaign, if the player chooses to detach the SIMCOM Adapter from the protagonist's weapon, he will comment to himself that he should probably put it back on.[2]
- If the player chooses to fire the weapon whilst the adapter remains removed, their commanding officer will reprimand him by threatening to issue an NJP (Non-Judicial Punishment). Continuing to defy the officer's orders will eventually result in a non-standard game over due to the player's repeated safety violations.[3]
