The Sa-58 is a 7.62 mm assault rifle featured in ArmA 2 and ARMA Reforger.

ArmA 2[]

« The Sa-58 is a 7.62mm assault rifle designed and manufactured in Czechoslovakia and accepted into service in the late 1950s as the 7,62mm samopal vzor 58 (""7.62mm submachine gun model 1958"").
The Sa-58P features the standard fixed stock.

The Sa-58V 7.62 mm assault rifle.

The Sa-58V is used exclusively by Czech military forces in ArmA 2. It was added with the release of the Operation Arrowhead expansion pack.

Overview[]

This is a premium asset that requires ownership of the Operation Arrowhead expansion pack.

The Sa-58V is a gas operated, selective-fire assault rifle that is chambered to fire the 7.62×39 mm cartridge.

It is primarily designed to load its own 30-round curved steel magazines, but can also load the same magazines used by the Russian-made AKM rifle. The Sa-58V can attain a fire rate of up to 600 rounds per minute, and has a muzzle velocity of 715 m/s. It has an accessory rail on top of its receiver for attaching ACOG riflescopes and red dot sights, as well as on its handguard for laser pointers. The Sa-58V cannot be suppressed with muzzle attachments.

A heavy duty weapon, the Sa-58V is the Czech military's alternate counterpart to the BREN family of assault rifles in use by its conventional forces. Though fairly outdated by modern standards, the Sa-58V's ruggedness makes it an ideal weapon for use by Czech special forces units operating deep in the arid hills of Takistan. To compensate for its age, the Sa-58V features an assortment of accessory rails to mount accessories such as magnified optical sights and laser pointers.

In many respects, it handles quite similarly to the Russian AKM assault rifle but thanks to its rails allowing for optical accessories to be attached, is far more reliable in medium-long ranged firefights. When fitted with the ACOG riflescope for instance, the Sa-58V's effective firing range extends out to almost 550 metres.

Compared to the BREN's 7.62 mm variant, the Sa-58V isn't nearly as accurate, has higher dispersion at distances of beyond 300 metres, and suffers from having slightly more recoil that makes it difficult to control when firing on full auto.

The Sa-58V's main advantage is that its magazine has 10 additional rounds that can fired in a single load, which generally makes it the better weapon for close quarters combat since the operator won't need to reload as quickly, and can keep firing for a little longer.

Variants[]

Sa-58P[]

The Sa-58P 7.62 mm assault rifle.

The Sa-58P is simply an older variant of the baseline Sa-58V rifle.

Unlike its modernised iteration, the Sa-58P uses wooden furniture as opposed to metal, and lacks accessory rails to mount optics, the foregrip and miscellaneous accessories.

It is available with either a fully extended wooden buttstock or with a side-folding metal stock. Both variants do not have optics but can be zeroed up to a maximum distance of 800 metres; unlike their parent model, which uses fixed zeroing ranges of 100 and 300 metres respectively depending on their optic.

Aside from the obvious lack of weapon attachments, there are no other functional or handling differences from regular Sa-58Vs.

Sights[]

Arma2-sa58v-ironsight-overview
The ironsight-only Sa-58V can be zeroed starting at a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 800 metres (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800). By default, it uses a zeroing of 100 metres.

Arma2-sa58vcco-ironsight-overview
The Sa-58V's reflex sight does not allow for manual zeroing. Only its red dot will be visible under low-light conditions.

Arma2-sa58vacog-ironsight-overview
The Sa-58V's riflescope does not allow for manual zeroing. Only the illuminated chevron at the centre of the reticle will be visible under low-light conditions.

Arma2-sa58vacogbackup-ironsight-overview
Backup ironsight located atop the Sa-58V's riflescope. It does not allow for the user to adjust the weapon's zeroing.

Arma2-sa58p-ironsight-overview
The Sa-58P's ironsights can be zeroed starting from a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 800 metres (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800). By default, the Sa-58P utilises a zeroing of 100 metres.

Camouflage[]

  • Desert: Standard three-tone desert camouflage paint scheme. Exclusive to modernised Sa-58Vs.
  • Black: Black paint scheme with a metal receiver/barrel and wooden furniture (stock, handguard, grip). Used by the ironsight-only Sa-58V and older Sa-58Ps.

All variants of the Sa-58 can load two types of magazines. They each take up one inventory slot:

SA58 Mag.[]

Arma2-ammunition-30rndsa58

Standard issue 30-round curved steel magazine. Does not contain any visible tracers.

AKM Mag.[]

Arma2-ammunition-30rndakm

Curved steel magazine used on Russian-made AKMs. Completely identical performance-wise to the Sa-58's magazines.

Trivia[]

  • The in-game Sa-58V/P rifles have an extremely low rate of fire compared to their real-life counterparts. Both are actually capable of attaining fire rates of up to 800 RPM depending on their fire mode.[1]
    • This was not rectified even after the release of the latest Steam version patches (as part of the CorePatch updates), though the textures of the Sa-58's ACOG riflescopes did get corrected.[2]

The Sa 58 P 7.62 mm assault rifle.

The Sa 58 P is used exclusively by FIA guerillas in ARMA Reforger.

Overview[]

This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.

Reforger's iteration of the Sa 58 is also featured a selective-fire assault rifle chambered for the 7.62×39 mm cartridge.

Compared to its ArmA 2 predecessor, the fire rate of Reforger's Sa 58 has been uprated to 800 RPM (an approximate ~ 33% increase). However, the Sa 58 P does not have the ability to mount optical sights and its muzzle velocity has also been slightly cut to ~ 705 m/s.

The Sa 58 P takes up 2x2 inventory slots and has a volume of 1,500 cm3. It has a Supply cost of 10 units if it is taken from an Arsenal Box.

Variants[]

Sa 58 V[]

The Sa 58 V 7.62 mm assault rifle.

The Sa 58 V features a folding metal wire stock as opposed to the baseline P model's fixed buttstock. The fixed stock's omission in favour of a wire stock reduces its carrying weight, but the overall volume of the rifle remains unchanged.

The Sa 58 V takes up the same number of inventory slots as the baseline Sa 58 P. It also shares the same Supply cost of 10 units whenever it is obtained from an Arsenal Box.

Ironsights[]

Reforger-sa58p-ironsight-overview
Zeroing starts at a minimum of 100 metres and goes up to a maximum of 800 metres (440, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800).

Sa 58 Ps always have a default zeroing of 440 metres. Both the front and rear sight are not illuminated.

Both variants of the Sa 58 are able to load two types of magazines:

7.62×39mm 30rnd Sa 58 Mag[]

Reforger-ammunition-30rndsa58

Standard 30-round curved magazine loaded with a mix of PS steel core and T-45 tracer ammunition (with a 25/5 split). Only the last five rounds of the magazine actually consist of tracers.

When fully loaded with all thirty rounds, it has a weight of 0.67 kg (each round in the magazine has a weight of 0.016 kg). An empty magazine on the other hand, only weighs 0.19 kg. Each magazine will take up a 1x1 inventory slot and has a volume of 200 cm3.

This magazine is freely obtainable from Arsenal Box crates or a Resupply Pack. It does not have a Supply cost.

7.62×39mm 30rnd Sa 58 Tracer Mag[]

Reforger-ammunition-30rndsa58

Alternate 30-rounder magazine loaded entirely with T-45 tracers.

Other than its loadout, it shares the exact same weight, inventory slot layout, and volume space requirements with the standard 30-round magazines. It is similarly free to take from Arsenal Boxes and does not cost Supplies.

Trivia[]

  • It is the only assault rifle in Reforger that does not have the ability to mount an underbarrel grenade launcher.
    • As of Update 1.1's release[3], it is also the only assault rifle that cannot be fitted with optical sights.
  • A teaser screenshot depicting the Sa 58 P in use was first previewed in Dev Report #14.[4]
