NOTE: This article is about Czechoslovakian Sa-58 assault rifles in ArmA 3's CSLA Iron Curtain Creator DLC. For its counterpart in ArmA 2's Operation Arrowhead expansion pack, see Sa-58. |
« | Samopal vzor 58 (The 7.62mm SMG M1958) is a Czechoslovak assault rifle designed for 7.62×39 munition. It uses the same cartridge as the AK-47, but a different magazine. Optional accessories: bayonet, bipod, scope. Field Manual

The Sa-58P and its derivatives are 7.62 mm assault rifles used by the CSLA and in limited numbers with FIA guerillas in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the CSLA Iron Curtain Creator DLC.
Overview
- This article is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The Sa-58P is a gas operated, selective-fire assault rifle that is chambered to fire the 7.62×39 mm cartridge.
It loads from 30-round curved magazines, and can attain a fire rate of ~ 800 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity of 705 m/s.
Sa-58Ps feature a dedicated mount on the receiver which can be fitted with a riflescope that uses a fixed magnification of 4x or alternately, an enhanced night vision scope (also with a fixed magnification).
Additionally, the Sa-58P's barrel supports the attachment of either a bayonet or a folding bipod dedicated for use on the Sa-58P. However, it cannot be fitted with a sound suppressor.
Variants
Sa-58 VG-70
« | Sa-58 with vrhač granátů vzor 70 (Grenade Launcher M1970) is a Czechoslovak assualt rifle M1958 with integrated grenade launcher for 26.5mm munition. Field Manual
|
» |
This variant specifically features an integral grenade launcher module in the form of the VG-70. Unlike other models, this variant is exclusive to forces.
It is capable of loading and firing a variety of 26.5 mm high-explosive (HE), less-than-lethal (LTL) flare rounds, as well as non-lethal smoke grenades.
VG-70s can hit point targets at ranges of 200 metres and area targets at distances of up to 350 metres. It utilises a ladder sight which can be "zeroed" starting at 200 metres. This then jumps to 275 metres before hitting a maximum of 350 metres.
For obvious reasons, it should also be noted that the grenade launcher obstructs and prevents the mounting of bayonets and bipods onto the barrel.
Sa-58V
« | Sa-58 asault rifle with folding stock. Optional accessories:bayonet, bipod. Field Manual
|
» |
This model features a side-folding metal stock as opposed to the fixed wooden stock on baseline Sa-58Ps.
It is both statically and functionally identical to Sa-58Ps with the sole exception being that it cannot be fitted with optical sights (bipods are still supported). As such, the user can only rely on the Sa-58V's ironsights.
These ironsights can be zeroed starting at a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 800 metres. Adjustments are always made in increments of 100 metres.
Ammunition
NOTE: Both variants of the M16A2 are capable of loading the same magazines utilised by non-CSLA 5.56 mm-chambered weapons. To minimise clutter, they are deliberately excluded from this section.
Round name | Base damage value | Aerodynamic friction | Initial velocity (m/s) | Penetration depth (mm) |
---|---|---|---|---|
7.62×39 mm | 9.39 | -0.00195 | 705 | 11.844 |
7.62×39 mm Tracer | 9.148 | -0.00195 | 705 | 11.844 |
7.62×39 mm Training | 0 | -0.00195 | 705 | 0 |
For grenade rounds usable with the VG-70, refer to its dedicated article here.
All Sa-58 variants are capable of loading three types of magazines. No matter the type, they each weigh a total "mass" of 10 units apiece:
7.62×39 30× Sa-58
Standard 30-round curved magazine loaded with 7.62 mm ball ammunition.
7.62×39 Tracer 30× Sa-58
Alternate magazine partially loaded with a mix of regular ball and visible tracer ammunition. It has a load mix of one tracer for every three rounds fired. Only the last four rounds consist solely of tracers.
It should also be noted that tracer rounds inflict slightly less damage compared to non-tracer 7.62 mm ball rounds, though its penetration capability remains unchanged.
7.62×39 Training 30× Sa-58
Dummy magazine intended for use in training exercises. Does not inflict damage to targets and is unable to pierce armour.
It does however, utilise the same load mix as the dedicated tracer magazine and will emit one for every three "rounds" fired. Similarly, the last four "rounds" will comprise entirely of visible tracers.
Trivia
- The VG-70 is strangely reloaded as if it were a breech-loaded weapon like the American-made M203.
- Alongside weapons like the OP-63 sniper rifle, CSLA's Sa-58s are one of the few firearms (albeit semi-official only) that can feed from magazines loaded with blank ammunition.
- Prior to CSLA's release, only certain weapons from ArmA 3's (official) Contact expansion pack were capable of loading blank magazines designed specifically for training purposes.
