Design[]

This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.

Armament
It is armed with a 20 mm autocannon that can load and fire two types of munitions: armour-piercing discarding-sabot (APDS-T) and high-explosive incendiary (HEI-T). The turret's roof is also armed with a single 7.62 mm medium machine gun that can be used when the vehicle's commander is turned out.

The RH202 autocannon has access to 500 shells in total. This pool is split between the two types of shells:

  • 75 shells' worth of APDS-T
  • 425 rounds of HEI-T shells

On the other hand, the turret roof-mounted MG3 MMG feeds from 120-round belts stored in ammoboxes. The MG3 has access to 3 more ammoboxes in reserve for a combined total of 480 rounds.

Features
The SpPz 2A1 is fully amphibious and can ford across any body of water. Its trim vane does not unfold automatically, though the driver has the option to do so manually if needed.

The gunner is also able to activate a searchlight. However, it can only project a white spotlight that is visible to naked eye (it is not an infrared light).

Crew Capacity
The SpPz 2A1 supports a crew of four that consists of the driver, a commander, the gunner, and a radio operator. Up to four passengers may be seated upon the rear section of the hull behind the turret.

Variants[]

Enhanced variant equipped with thermal imagers for both the gunner and commander. Aside from its optics suite and removal of the searchlight, the SpPz 2A2's armament and overall loadout remains unchanged.

Camouflage[]

NOTE: Both SpPz variants have additional camouflage schemes for non-West German BLUFOR/REDFOR nations. Please note that these nations are not actually featured as playable factions in the DLC.

American[]

NOTE: Not featured as a playable faction.

Soviet[]

NOTE: Not featured as a playable faction.

West German[]

Protection[]

Both variants of the SpPz have base armour values of 300. Addon armour modules are not supported on either variant.

Hull[]

The SpPz's hull can withstand up to 300 points of damage. It takes 80% reduced damage from high-explosive (HE) type munitions. 100% of incoming damage to the hull will always be shared with the SpPz's main "health" pool.

Engine[]

The engine is only able to take 135 points of damage before it fails. It does not apply any reductions to damage from HE-type munitions. Damage to the engine will not be shared with the vehicle's "health" pool.

Wheels[]

Each of the SpPz's eight wheels can take up to 150 points of damage before their tyres burst. The wheels take 400% increased damage from HE-type munitions. At least 30% of damage to any of the wheels will be shared with the vehicle's "health" pool.

Turret[]

The main turret's elevation and traverse systems can each withstand up to 90 points of damage before they fail. They take 40% less damage from HE-type munitions. Damage to either of the components will not be shared with the SpPz's main "health" pool.

Components[]

NOTE: Only components which provide actual gameplay uses are listed. Cosmetic additions with no gameplay effects (i.e. camouflage tarpaulin rolls) are deliberately excluded.

  • Add Camo Net - Hull: Affixes camouflage nets on the front and rear half of the hull (the back and front half of the hull are not covered). None of the nets offer any concealment from thermal-based sensors and optics.
  • Add Camo Net - Turret: Covers the front of the turret with a camouflage net (the mounted MG3 and autocannon barrel are not concealed). Does not provide concealment from thermal optics.
  • Add Foliage - Hull: Attaches numerous leafy tree branches around the entire hull. Provides some concealment for the vehicle against the naked eye. They do not enhance the vehicle's camouflage against thermal sensors/optics.
  • Add Foliage - Turret: Attaches some foliage around the entire turret. Slightly effective against the naked eye but does not conceal the vehicle from thermal optics.

Armament[]

NOTE: For specifics on the RH202's munitions, see its related section listed here.

The gunner controls the main RH202 20 mm autocannon while the commander can turn out and manually take control of the MG3 7.62 mm machine gun.

For optics, the gunner can switch between two fields of view (Peri Z11A1 2x/6x) but it is exclusively a day sight that cannot toggle any enhanced vision modes. Only the upgraded SpPz 2A2 model is capable of toggling a green-/black-hot thermal mode (WBG X 2x/8x):

RH202[]

Arma3-vehicleweapons-gmcwgsppz2a1-rh202

General-purpose 20 mm autocannon. Can load either HE or AP-type munitions.

It can attain a fire rate of up to 1,000 rounds per minute. Switching between munition types is instantaneous but it will take at least 60 seconds to reload a spare "magazine" or to fully rearm from a logistics truck/supply crate if all four "magazines" have been fully depleted. Accuracy-wise, the RH202 has a dispersion of 0.0025 rad.

The RH202 does not have a dedicated Fire Control System and can only be manually zeroed. Manual zeroing starts from a minimum of 100 m up to a maximum of 1900 m. Adjustments are made with increments/decrements of 100 m.

MG3[]

Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Initial velocity (m/s) Penetration depth (mm)
11.76 -0.00094464 820 11.07

7.62 mm medium machine gun mounted atop the commander's hatch.

It can attain a fire rate of up to 1,200 RPM and has a muzzle velocity of 820 m/s. Accuracy-wise, it has a dispersion of 0.0009599 rad. It will take at least 8 seconds to reload the MG3 with a fresh belt box.

The MG3 does not have a dedicated FCS. However, manual zeroing is possible and starts from a minimum of 100 m up to a maximum of 1200 m. Adjustments are made with decrements/increments of 100 m.

FFV[]

Both the commander and gunner can make use of their own weapons when turned out. All rear hull passengers also have the ability to utilise FFV.

Notes[]

  1. Both variants of the SpPz can technically be slingloaded as their models have memory points that allow for slings to be attached. However, this is only possible if the vehicle's weight has been deliberately reduced to an acceptable threshold by using the setMass scripting command.

Trivia[]

  • The SpPz 2 was not initially available upon Global Mobilization's release and was only added after Update 1.2.[1]
  • Following Update 1.3's release, the ability to customise both variants of the SpPz 2 with foliage and camouflage netting covers through the Virtual Garage was enabled. However, Update 1.3 also reduced the vehicle's durability and made it less resistant to AP shells and explosives.[2]
  • Additional camouflage schemes, specifically the (then-new) U.S. and Soviet textures, were later added in Update 1.5.[3]
  • Although the SpPz 2 technically has an "interior" for all crew positions, they are merely darkened compartments that allow the crew to see through the hatches without needing to be forced into a 2D pre-Tanks DLC style view.
    • The developers have stated that there are no plans to include a fully detailed interior.[4]
  • The SpPz 2's real descriptive name ("Luchs") is deliberately omitted for licencing reasons.[5]

  4. Mondkalb 2020, Regarding the tank interiors: It's a lot of work because of the massive amounts of intricate details required. This is time and effort that easily comparable with making an additional new vehicle. For GM we'd rather bring you new vehicles (Like the helicopters or the Luchs) than spending time on tank interiors., Discord [Social Media], viewed 4 November 2023, <https://discord.com/channels/245546995874267147/757954857226338447/758009638125043863>.
