Spearhead 1944 is a premium DLC for ArmA 3's Creator DLC programme. It was released on July 25th, 2023.[1]
Overview
Ā« | Grab your rifle and prepare to deploy to Normandy where youāll experience World War II combat with the grand scale and intense realism that only the Arma platform can deliver. Spearhead 1944 places you in the boots of the soldiers fighting to break out from a tenuous foothold in the hellish maze of the bocage to liberate occupied Normandy. Play your way, with a wide array of iconic weapons and vehicles. Join the fight for liberation, or hold your ground across a new 150 km2 representation of real-world terrain based on inland Normandy. Command a tank, light up your flamethrower, dial in your sniper scope, or grab your medical supplies. Dive into a sprawling new co-op campaign for up to 24 players inspired by Operation Cobra. Or take the fight to the enemy with multiplayer game modes, a French Resistance-focused singleplayer scenario and US and German faction showcases. Offering unparalleled player freedom and new layers of strategic and tactical gameplay, Spearhead 1944 builds on the successful Arma 3 military sandbox formula to render World War II combat for players to experience in solo, with friends in a group, or together with the global Arma community. Ā» |
Taking place at the height of the Second World War, Spearhead 1944 primarily follows the events of the Operation Cobra offensive, seven weeks after the D-Day landings.
Two playable terrains are included: Normandy, one of the highlights of the DLC, is a 150 kmĀ²-sized terrain that faithfully recreates areas of northwestern France on a 1:2 scale. It features numerous locations that were involved in the Operation Overlord campaign, ranging from Saint LĆ“ to Roncey as well as Lengronne. On the other hand, Mortain clocks in at 64 kmĀ² and is a recreation of the Mortain area to a 1:1 scale that includes many iconic landmarks such as the Mortain Church, Hill 317, 314, and 285, the Abbaye Blanche, Cambremont mine, Romagny, and St. BarthĆ©lemy.
Spearhead 1944's lineup of playable factions includes the U.S. Army, Free French resistance forces, Vichy French paramilitaries, and the German Wehrmacht. They are accompanied by a suite of era-appropriate weapons, equipment, and ground/air vehicular assets.
All proceeds made from the sale of Spearhead 1944 are shared between the developers of the DLC (Heavy Ordnance Works, the creators), the publisher (Bohemia Interactive), and the digital distributor (Valve).
NOTE: The content in Spearhead is completely optional to acquire. Unlike inhouse DLCs developed and released by Bohemia Interactive, content is only downloaded if the user purchases the DLC.
Optionally, players can download a trial version from the Workshop which is intended to be used for multiplayer compatibility purposes. The terrains and included scenarios (both singleplayer and multiplayer) are not fully accessible however, and vehicles cannot be driven or commanded outside of the editor without purchasing the DLC.

Trivia
- Spearhead 1944 is the first Creator DLC to be set in the Second World War.
- It was the first Creator DLC to not feature a playable faction on REDFOR (all post-1.1 factions are either civilians, BLUFOR or INDFOR).
- The DLC and its teaser trailer were first unveiled on July 7th, 2023[3], but did not receive a concrete release date until twelve days later on July 19th.[4]
- When Spearhead 1944 was initially released, units for the DLC's German factions did not have access to dedicated radio protocols and were simply muted in regular gameplay. Update 1.1 would add two period authentic German radio protocols for the faction as well as two more protocols for French forces as well (Spearhead 1944's French protocols are not the same as ArmA 3's Tanoan French protocol).[5]
