The Special Purpose Helmet is a ballistic-resistant helmet used by Viper operatives in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Apex DLC.
Overview[]
The Special Purpose Helmet is a thermally-masked combat helmet worn by CSAT's elite Viper Team operatives. It has a weight of 80 "mass" units, is rated at Level V protection standards, and has integrated night/thermal vision capability.
Representing the pinnacle of CSAT's technological advancements, the SPH is undisputedly the premier infantry helmet in ArmA 3. Like Defenders worn by conventional CSAT soldiers, the SPH can easily shrug off a direct hit from intermediate rifle rounds at point blank range (6.5 mm/7.62 mm). However, unlike the former, the SPH also covers the wearer's entire head and face; with the latter retaining the same amount of ballistic resistance as regular Protector Helmets.
Furthermore, the SPH has the added advantage of possessing integrated, full-screen night and thermal vision. Unlike its inferior and outdated American-made counterpart, this eschews the need for an externally worn set of night vision goggles or thermal scopes.
Its sole drawback stems from the excessive weight (80 "mass"), which places quite a burden on the user's stamina. Given all the benefits provided by the SPH however, one can easily overlook its weight in favour of the high level of protection offered.
Hitpoints[]
Body part | Base armour value | Damage reduction modifier (vs. ballistic) | Damage reduction modifier (vs. explosions) |
---|---|---|---|
Face | 8 | 50% | 50% |
Head | 12 | 50% | 50% |
Camouflage[]
- Hex: Arid Hexacam camouflage pattern. Used by Viper operatives in the Mediterranean and North African regions.
- Green Hex: Tropic Hexacam camouflage pattern. Used by Viper operatives in the Pacific region.
Trivia[]
- The Special Purpose Helmet is completely fictional and has no real-world equivalent. It does however, bear some loose similarities to the helmet designed for Revision Military's "Kinetic Operations Suit" (first unveiled in 2015).[1]
