Syrta (Altian: Συρτά) is a settlement located on the island of Altis in the Republic of Altis and Stratis.

Overview[]

Syrta is a medium-sized town located at the base of a valley between the peaks of Pyrsos (north-east) and Agios Minas (west). The main road which cuts through the town can be used to reach Galati to its east or Kore in the south-west.

International arms smuggling rings were known to have set up camps within the surrounding wilderness west of Syrta.[1][2] Prior to the civil war, Altian police had attempted to curtail their operations in the region but were unable to do so before the conflict escalated.[3]

History[]

Ten days after the successful operation to root out insurgents in Kavala, the AAF stepped up its counterinsurgency (COIN) efforts in the western regions of Altis, focusing primarily on locating and destroying weapons caches scattered by the FIA.[4][5][6] However, government troops had mostly failed to contain the spread of illicit weapons in the region.[2]

In response, Iranian-led CSAT forces stepped in to assist the AAF. A squad of elite recon troops were dispatched to Syrta to ambush unsuspecting cells of FIA insurgents who passed through.[7] They succeeded in destroying at least two groups of fighters by utilising a mixture of explosives and tripwire mines to decimate insurgent convoys.[8]

In spite of this, a third group of fighters managed to evade their traps. They quickly reversed the situation in their favour, hunting down the hunters themselves. The COIN operatives were subsequently cut down to the last man and Syrta was captured by the FIA.

Facilities[]

Military outpost[]

A compound surrounded by stone walls is located on the western side of Syrta. Its guard tower is used to provide overwatch of the surrounding region for signs of insurgent activity.

Several H-barriers protect an improvised dirt helipad. It is located on the other side of the road, directly in front of the compound's entrance.

Petrol station[]

A petrol station operated by the Altis-based Fuel company is built along the western road, east of the military outpost.

Trivia[]

  • Syrta's real-world counterpart on the island of Lemnos, Greece, is the village of Sardes. However, the in-game addition of a military outpost is completely fictitious. As of 2024, only an empty lot exists on the same spot in reality.
  • It is prominently featured in both the main campaign's Scouting side missions and the Firing From Vehicles showcase.

He's no small fish - part of a large international gang. They had access to almost everything. They definitely have a cache here on Altis. Stavrou's interrogating him now, but the bastard's not saying anything."

It was no big deal, but... could be something. Apparently they were set up somewhere out in the wilderness west of Syrta, but the conflict escalated before they were able to catch them."

And - to make matters worse – with Nikos still missing in action, we've lost a key link in our supply network. We're not desperate - not yet, at least - but the situation is only going to get worse from here."
