« | During his first officer's assignment, Lt. David Armstrong collects his squad and defends village of Goisse. Mission Description
|
» |
Taking Command is the twentieth mission of ArmA: Cold War Assault's Cold War Crisis campaign.
Diary[]
« | Well, what kind of an officer would I be without a unit of my own to command? Colonel Blake wants me to gather the remnants of a couple of other squads, and assist in the defense of Goisse. God knows what they're going to think of me - with no command experience... no proper training, even, just a few notes from the Commander field manual |

Walkthrough[]
Primary 1: Find Bravo squad[]
This is more of a tutorial mission intended to help you get to grips with the Command Menu (Hotkey: F1) and ordering your own troops around.
Your first priority however is to locate Bravo squad's troops. Order your squad member to board the parked jeep in front of you and send him to grid Ec45 (the village of Arudy).
Primary 2: Bring Bravo squad back to the crossroads[]
The jeep you sent off should arrive shortly afterwards. Bravo's members will be located and the objective will be completed.
Primary 3: Wait for Alpha squad to arrive[]
The rest of Alpha squad will be coming in another truck, so wait at the starting point until they arrive.
Primary 4: Get everyone to Goisse[]
Drive the truck and all of your squad members to the village of Goisse at coordinates Ci33.
Primary 5: Report to Major Johnson near the field hospital[]
The field tent is located next to one of the homes. Disembark from the truck once you're close enough and speak to Major Johnson.
Once the cutscene's over, follow the Major to the main defensive line. Individually order your squad members to take cover behind the sandbags and issue the HOLD POSITION command. At the same time, switch to ENGAGE AT WILL mode (if they already aren't).
Primary 6: Repel the enemy attack[]
The Soviets will be arriving soon. Your main threats consist mainly of light infantry and BMPs. Your AT gunner should take care of the BMP but if he cannot (or somehow dies first), then grab his launcher and do it yourself. The rest of the enemy soldiers can be dealt with by your squad (or by Maj. Johnson's troops).
Once the last enemy soldier or vehicle has been destroyed, the mission will be completed.
Tips[]
- It might be preferable for you to destroy the incoming BMP manually. While rallying the members of Alpha squad, have the AT gunner drop his launcher and pick it up yourself instead.
Trivia[]
- The mission was originally stated to have taken place on June 14th. However, this was later retconned by the official Armaverse Timeline which changed it to June 13th instead.[1]
