Mission Description
»

The Brother is a playable mission in ArmA 3's Remnants of War campaign.

Overview[]

This is a premium mission that requires ownership of the Laws of War DLC.

The player controls a civilian named Markos Kouris. A week has passed since the end of the war and a fragile peace has returned to the country.

However, Markos has received information that Alexis - his brother, may have been killed at their former home of Oreokastro. In the hopes of laying his brother to rest, he has returned to their hometown to locate his remains.

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: Go to Church[]

Alexis' remains are located somewhere at the church. You'll need to find and verify the body.

As soon as you reach the church, go inside the church grounds to examine the corpses. You'll set off a landmine/Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) fragment shortly after getting inside, which will kill Markos in the process but results in a successful "completion" of the objective. A cutscene and additional dialogue will cue before the memory ends.

Take note that you can't actually trigger any of the UXO fragments at any other location in the village other than at the church. Attempting to leave the village will similarly result in an instant death from a "landmine".

Trivia[]

  • Keeping in line with the campaign's motif of "actions have consequences", the landmines placed by Lieutenant Kostas Dimitriou in The Major is tragically what causes Markos' demise.
  • It is not possible to avoid dying to the APERS Mines/UXO fragments at the church even if Markos remains motionless and prone. Taking even the slightest amount of damage from the explosion is considered lethal (the sequence is scripted to kill Markos no matter how minute the blast).
  • Attempting to go out of bounds will trigger extra dialogue as a gentle reminder to keep with the memory's events.
  • Fall damage from deadly heights is scripted to be capped at 70%, meaning Markos can't actually die from dropping off a building rooftop (assuming you were somehow able to reach one in the first place).
  • Depending on where you were killed, Markos' corpse will be positioned at the exact same location once you assume control of MacDade for the mini-campaign's main hub.
    • This does not apply if he was killed while out of bounds however, as his corpse will simply relocate to a preset location at the church grounds.
  • Although The Brother is always played first at the start of the campaign, it is chronologically the final memory as its events lead to MacDade returning to Oreokastro.
