« | Its gonna be extremely dangerous sabotaging the coastal defenses, right under the enemies noses. The way it looks, disabling them is the only way to succeed in the upcoming ship attack. Mission Description

» |
The Coast is the first mission of ArmA: Armed Assault's Rahmadi Conflict campaign.
Overview[]
The player controls USMC Special Forces operative Sergeant Leon Ortega. Despite their defeat on the mainland, remnants of the SLA have fled to the smaller island of Rahmadi where they have dug in and set up numerous anti-ship defences.
To pave the way for an amphibious landing, Ortega's fireteam has been tasked with the mission of sabotaging coastal defences in preparation for the upcoming invasion.
Ortega's role/class:
- Specops / SF Assault
Default loadout:
- Primary weapon: M4A1 GL (6× magazines)
- Secondary weapon: M9 (2× magazines)
- Equipment: NV Goggles, M203 HE (4×)
The briefing loadout menu is not available for this mission.
Objectives[]
Primary[]
- (1) Prepare the sabotage and call the attack
- (2) Wait for Flashteam to be ready
- (3) Support the attack and seize the coast
Optional[]
N/A
Mandatory[]
- Ortega must survive
- Avoid collateral damage/friendly fire
- Do not leave the AO
Walkthrough[]
Primary 1: Prepare the sabotage and call the attack[]
Swap your default carbine for the MP5SD6 SMG stashed inside the insertion boat and take along the M136 too.
Two SLA soldiers will be standing guard at a sandbag bunker just a few hundred meters north of your insertion point at grid Bd92 (next to the parked car). Drop both of them with a quick burst from your SMG and then move up.

LEGEND
Orange: SLA camps
Red: Shilkas
Purple: T-72s
Blue: Starting location (you)
From this point onward, you have several minutes to attack different targets of your choosing before the next phase of the mission begins. Prioritise destroying any of the following targets (listed in order of highest-to-lowest in terms of threat level):
- T-72 tanks (3 total, 1 unmanned)
- Shilka gun battery (3 total, 1 unmanned)
- Static heavy machine gun (1 total)
- Static grenade launcher turrets (7 total)
- Static howitzer (1 total)
If you're feeling particularly ballsy, you can hop into the armed car at the bunker and bombard the defenders on the eastern beach with its 30 mm grenade launcher. Or if you want to play stealthily, slowly cut your way through the defenders using just the MP5 and stealth. Take special care to avoid being detected by the Shilka as it can quickly cut down your entire team with just a few barrages of explosive shells.
No matter your approach, the objective will be completed once you've planted satchels at the marked position or eliminated at least 50% or more of the defenders.
Primary 2: Wait for Flashteam to be ready[]
If you destroyed enough targets, use the Radio Menu to notify HQ that your targets have been eliminated and that the invasion can begin. If you completed the first objective earlier than expected, then HQ will request that you hold on for a little while longer.
Otherwise, the members of Flash Team will eventually report that they were able to sabotage one of the AA batteries but have been detected. HQ will then demand a status update on your progress; you'll be granted the option of issuing an all-clear for the assault to begin or to delay it a little longer.
In this case, it may be wise to delay the assault for the time being if you haven't knocked out many targets. They won't stop the invasion force but it will slow down the mission's progress if they're still around at the time of the attack.
Primary 3: Support the attack and seize the coast[]
If you authorised the assault, allied troops will be dropped off from boats along the entire southern coastline at grids Bd91, Be92 and Bh92.
You can link up with any of the landing teams or just wait at your current position until the mission ends. The only requirement is to mop up any SLA defenders that weren't eliminated earlier in the mission. You may see a few SLA trucks attempt to reinforce the defenders from the north-eastern camp but they will almost always get blown up by friendly forces.
The mission will end in victory once helicopters arrive to reinforce the attack.
Tips[]
- The MP5SD6 is a decent option for this mission as you'll be fighting at distances of under 200 metres. The integral suppressor also doubles as a flash suppressor on top of minimising your weapon's sound profile. Combined with the low-light night sky conditions, Ortega is next to impossible for the AI to see under normal circumstances.
- You may want to order your team's marksman to Hold Fire as his weapon isn't suppressed (or swap it with one of the MP5s stocked inside the boat). You can also use Team Switch to manually control him, though make sure Ortega isn't left in a vulnerable position before switching control.
- Obviously, there's no need to do this with the others as their M4A1s are suppressed by default.
- Your starting boat has plentiful amounts of ammunition stashed inside. Most importantly, it contains spare rockets for the M136 (if you choose an overt approach to tackling the mission).
- Watch out for searchlights. They can't shoot you but their spotlights will give away your position and effectively nullify your low-light "invisibility" to the AI.
- Be careful not to get caught in the crossfire when allied troops attack the coast. Rounds from their heavy machine guns can ricochet and will result in an instant one shot kill if you get struck by a stray projectile.
Trivia[]
The track as retitled into Valentine for ArmA 2
- The theme that plays once the amphibious strike force commences its attack (titled as "Victory") is later reused for the sixth mission of ArmA 2's main campaign.
- This is chronologically the first playable mission in ArmA: Armed Assault to feature a named protagonist.
- Porter only narrates Armed Assault whilst the campaign involving Lambowski takes place more than a year after the events of the Rahmadi Conflict.
- Colonel Davis has a different voice actor despite being the exact same person from the main campaign.
