This unmanned tank drone equipped with great firepower and heavy plating armor is the latest military invention provided for our fight. It is slower than other UGVs but has a great amount of HP and its slow rate of fire is compensated for by the huge amount of damage it causes.
Office Description
»
Purpose[]
The second-to-last unit to be unlocked at the Office, the Tracked UGV is the most powerful unit out of all ground-based vehicles and infantry.
Strengths[]
Compared to the Wheeled UGV, the Tracked UGV has twelve times the amount of total HP (unupgraded), allowing it to drive over traps and remain relatively unscathed. Its main cannon fires slowly, but is subsequently more powerful as it can take down most defences in three to four shots.
On the other hand when compared to the Light UGV, the Tracked UGV is far slower and has a shorter weapon range. However, it compensates by being able to withstand much more damage, and is able to break through fortified Walls instantly instead of having to shoot them manually.
Since the Tracked UGV's base HP pool is ridiculously high even when unupgraded, it can take a lot of punishment from the most powerful ground defences, ranging from Mortars to even the Railgun Tower. Its cannon is similarly capable of destroying almost everything on the ground, with few units aside from the Helicopter Drone being able to compare.
Weaknesses[]
Despite its plentiful upsides, the Tracked UGV also has several drawbacks to its use. For instance, unlike Wheeled/Light UGVs, the Tracked UGV doesn't possess any supportive abilities and is purely designed to be an offensive unit. As a result, it lacks any utility outside of simply attacking and drawing fire from enemy defences.
Its slow movement speed combined with its short range also forces the Tracked UGV to get up close to buildings in order to attack them. This makes it particularly vulnerable to long range defences like the Railgun Tower, as the latter can fire off two to three shots before the Tracked UGV is able to retaliate.
Lastly, Tracked UGVs are extremely expensive and cost the most fuel to construct and replace. Additionally, they are also very space-intensive; occupying up to 7 slots at the Barracks which is just 1 short of the X35 Jet.
Usage[]
Regardless, the Tracked UGV is the premier ground unit to use in spite of these drawbacks. Its Charge ability makes it highly effective at breaching bases, no matter how heavily walled-up they may be. If defending, there are few ways to counter the Tracked UGV outside of simply massing up defensive structures and hoping that they drive over traps.
Like all drone-type units, Tracked UGVs are unable to gain any veterancy bonuses from winning battles, and rely purely on upgrades obtained at the Comms Centre.
Abilities[]
Charge[]
«
If there is a wall nearby, the tank can charge it in high speed, causing a massive damage which can cause breaking through the wall.
Ability description
»
The Tracked UGV will begin to glow orange and gain a temporary movement speed burst (its base speed gains a 1.5x multiplier for the duration of the effect). Any Walls that it comes into contact will usually be instantly destroyed regardless of how high level they are.
It is entirely possible for a single Tracked UGV to breach up to two lines of Walls depending on how closely placed they are, which makes it vital for breaking through heavily fortified bases.
Be aware that Tracked UGVs cannot attack any defences until it finishes charging a Wall.
Trivia[]
The Tracked UGV's model appears to be based on a heavily modified version of the M2A1 Slammer tank from ArmA 3, though the chassis and frontal hull is shaped differently.
Before the release of Update 1.14, Tracked UGVs did not have the ability to use Charge.[1]
On occasion, double-layered walls can unintentionally force Tracked UGVs to become stuck when Charge is toggled to AUTO activation mode. The Tracked UGV will try to breach the first layer, but continuously turns around in a circle instead in a futile attempt to Charge the second layer.
The AI's pathfinding for Tracked UGVs is also rather poor when it comes to manoeuvring around walls placed in a grid formation. It will often tend to prioritise using Charge on walls in the opposite direction instead of going after the defences placed directly behind it.
Update 1.16[1] has further compounded the Tracked UGV's pathing issues, with even separated, single walls being capable of disrupting its AI. After using Charge, Tracked UGVs can become completely unresponsive and will not move or fire back at defensive structures unless a UAV Drone support is used to redirect the unit to attack elsewhere.
