« | M939 all-purpose truck entered US Army service in the 1980s and is the latest in a long line of standard issue vehicles dating back to the 1940s. Powered by an 8.3 liter 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, M939 can carry up to five tons of cargo or 11 fully equipped soldiers. Vehicle Description[1]

» |
Design[]
Developed in the 1970s as an improved version of the earlier M809 series of trucks, the Truck 5T's primary function is the logistical transportation of supplies and personnel. It incorporates improved cooling and electrical systems, and has overall better performance when driving off-road.
Features
Aside from the baseline transport, four additional configurations of the Truck 5T are available:
- An open-top troop transporter
- A fuel tanker
- An ammunition carrier
- A mobile repair vehicle
Forming the mainstay of the U.S. military's logistics at the height of the Cold War, the Truck 5T is a rugged and fairly mobile utility truck. Analogous to its Soviet counterpart (the Ural), the Truck 5T similarly serves in a non-combat role as a support vehicle.
Mobility
The Truck 5T is just as fast as the Ural and can attain a top speed of 104 km/h on turbo. Cruising speeds are identical (~ 92 km/h), as well as handling, acceleration, and turn rates.
Drawbacks
The Truck 5T lacks armour plating and does not carry any armament. It shouldn't be brought near areas where enemy forces are expected to be present, as neither the Truck 5T's passengers nor the crew will survive for long if they come under fire.
Crew Capacity
All variants of the Truck 5T, regardless of configuration, only require a single crewman in the form of the driver. For troop carrier variants, a maximum of twelve passengers may be seated in the flatbed and the cab.[CWACfgV 1][CWACfgV 2] Logistics-oriented variants on the other hand, only allow for two passengers to be seated within the truck's cab alongside the driver.[CWACfgV 3][CWACfgV 4][CWACfgV 5]
Variants[]
Transport[]

The flatbed is covered with a tarpaulin which can hide troops from view (note that the tarpaulin does not provide ballistic protection). It can transport up to twelve passengers at a time.[CWACfgV 1]
This variant can store a maximum of 50× weapons and 200× magazines.[CWACfgV 7][CWACfgV 8]

This variant can store a maximum of 50× weapons and 200× magazines.[CWACfgV 9][CWACfgV 10]
Logistics[]

This variant can store a maximum of 10× weapons and 50× magazines.[CWACfgV 12][CWACfgV 13]

Regardless of configuration, the Truck 5T has a cost[3] value of 70000.[CWACfgV 22]
Threat values[]
- Main article: AI Basics: Targeting priority
The baseline troop transport variants of the Truck 5T are considered to be a medium-risk threat[4] to AI-controlled infantry units, ground vehicles, and aircraft (0.5/0.5/0.5).[CWACfgV 23][CWACfgV 24]
Logistics variants of the Truck 5T are the exception to this; they are not considered to be a threat to AI-controlled infantry units, ground vehicles, and aicraft (0/0/0).[CWACfgV 25][CWACfgV 26][CWACfgV 27]
Noise factor[]
- Main article: AI Basics: Detection
All configurations of the Truck 5T have an audible[5] factor of 3.[CWACfgV 28]
Trivia[]
- Prior to Patch 1.30, logistics variants of the Truck 5T had significantly less supplies and would quickly run out of ammunition/fuel/spare parts after rearming, refuelling or fixing only a few vehicles. Their supply loads were significantly raised after the patch's release so that they can support many more vehicles before their supply counts are fully depleted.[6]
- The information below details unused, pre-release or removed content.
- A hidden version of the baseline Truck 5T transport is present within the game files but cannot normally be placed in the mission editor (Classname: Truck5tRich). This version specifically has a high "cost" value set that makes it an extremely valuable target for AI-controlled units to attack.[7]

« | The M-939A2 truck is a five-ton capacity, six-wheel drive cargo truck used for the transportation of all types of cargo. It is capable of carrying an 11 man squad, ammunition, fuel, or replacement parts for other vehicles. A general-purpose military truck, it is designed with tactical, off-road use in mind, with a maximum road speed of 105km/h. Library Description[8]
|
» |
Design[]
The 5T Truck in Armed Assault remains mostly the same as its Cold War-era predecessor, though it features a new armed sub-variant and slightly downgraded mobility.
Features
Nine unique configurations of Armed Assault's 5T Truck are now available. These include:
- Two unarmed troop carriers, with and without a tarpaulin covering the truck's rear flatbed
- One armed troop carrier that has a .50 cal heavy machine gun mounted onto a turret ring above the cab
- A mobile repair vehicle
- Two ammunition carriers
- Fuel tanker truck
- A supply truck designed to exclusively to transport supplies between bases[note 1]
- A salvager variant that collects vehicle wrecks on the battlefield[note 1]
Continuing to serve as the backbone of the U.S. military's logistical units operating on Sahrani, the Armed Assault 5T Truck fulfils the same functions and capabilities of its Cold War-era predecessors.
Mobility
When it is matched up against the SLA's older Ural truck, Armed Assault's 5T Truck is significantly faster and can attain a top speed of up to ~ 92 km/h on turbo compared to the Ural's maximum speed of just ~ 73 km/h. Overall handling and turn rates are mostly similar, however, meaning that the 5T Truck is somewhat difficult to control when driving off-road.
Drawbacks
Besides the HMG-armed open variant[A1CfgV 11], all other configurations of the 5T Truck leave both its crew and passengers completely vulnerable to small arms fire. Anti-vehicle weapons will have no difficulty in turning any variant of the 5T Truck into a smouldering wreck. Likewise, The tarpaulin covers offer absolutely no ballistic protection, so having an armed escort or simply staying out of harm's way is preferable.
Crew Capacity
All variants of the 5T Truck will support a crew of at least two, consisting of the driver and a single cab passenger.[A1CfgV 4][A1CfgV 5][A1CfgV 6] On the other hand, troop carrier trucks specifically support up to either twelve (if a gunner is present)[A1CfgV 3] or thirteen passengers.[A1CfgV 1][A1CfgV 2]
Variants[]
Transport[]

It can transport up to thirteen passengers at a time who sit in the rear flatbed section (the cab passenger is considered to be the thirteenth passenger).[A1CfgV 1] The flatbed is covered with a tarpaulin which can hide troops from view (note that the tarpaulin does not provide ballistic protection).
This variant can store a maximum of 50× weapons and 200× magazines.[A1CfgV 12][A1CfgV 13]

This variant can store a maximum of 50× weapons and 200× magazines.[A1CfgV 14][A1CfgV 15]

It is identical to the Open variant, but the cab passenger's seat has been retrofitted to make way for a turret ring fixed onto the roof above it which has an M2 .50 cal heavy machine gun mounted.[A1CfgV 11] The M2 HMG is pre-loaded with a single 100-round belt box, and has a further 3 more boxes left in reserve for a combined total of 400 rounds.[A1CfgV 16] It has the same passenger capacity as the standard troop carrier 5T Trucks (thirteen).
This variant can store a maximum of 50× weapons and 200× magazines.[A1CfgV 17][A1CfgV 18]

(*) These variants are completely non-functional in normal gameplay and only work in Capture The Island (CTI) scenarios created with the Warfare module.
Logistics[]

This variant can store a maximum of 10× weapons and 50× magazines.[A1CfgV 25][A1CfgV 26]

(**) This variant is intended for use in CTI-style missions but will function normally even in non-Warfare scenarios.
Protection[]
All variants of 5T Truck share the same base armour value of 25.[A1CfgV 39]
Body[]
The 5T Truck's body can withstand up to 25 points of damage.[A1CfgV 40][Formula 1] Depletion of its integrity will always result in the truck's destruction.[A1CfgV 41]
Engine[]
The truck's engine can only take a maximum of 10 points of damage before it fails.[A1CfgV 42][Formula 2] 100% of incoming damage will be shared with the truck's main "health" pool. The 5T Truck can potentially explode if it is at or near critical "health" status.[A1CfgV 43]
Fuel tank[]
The 5T Truck's fuel tank can only withstand up to 7.5 points of damage before it ruptures.[A1CfgV 44][Formula 3] 100% of incoming damage will be shared with the 5T Truck's main "health" pool. The truck can explode if it is at or near critical "health" status when the fuel tank is destroyed.[A1CfgV 45]
Wheels[]
Each of the 5T Truck's six wheels can only take up to 7.5 points of damage before their tyres burst.[A1CfgV 46][A1CfgV 47][A1CfgV 48][A1CfgV 49][Formula 4] No damage inflicted upon any of the wheels will be shared with the truck's main "health" pool.[A1CfgV 50][A1CfgV 51][A1CfgV 52][A1CfgV 53]
Armament[]
Only the armed 5T Truck model retains weaponry in the form of the M2 heavy machine gun.[A1CfgV 11] It is mounted atop the turret ring above the truck's cab:

All variants of the 5T Truck have an audible[5] factor of 3.[A1CfgV 67]
Trivia[]
- After Patch 1.08's release, supply loads for the Ammo Truck variant were significantly increased to allow for more vehicles to be rearmed (5T Trucks would originally run out very quickly after rearming just 3-5 tanks).[9]
- The Warfare-oriented configurations (Supply/Salvage/Reammo) were not originally available at Armed Assault's launch and were only included in Patch 1.14.[10]
- The 5T Truck is the only logistics vehicle in Armed Assault that features a dedicated armed variant with cab roof weaponry.
- It would also remain as the sole logistics truck in the series that retained armament while being able to transport troops simultanously until the release of the Army of the Czech Republic DLC for ArmA 2, which added the T810 for Czech forces (Ural trucks armed with ZU-23s in the base game sacrifice their transport capabilities to do so).
