Turning the Tide is the twenty-second mission of ArmA: Cold War Assault's Cold War Crisis campaign.

« Finally, reinforcements have arrived. Goisse is full of NATO soldiers now. So we're ready to move on that Russian camp I located yesterday and my unit will lead the attack, with support from Bravo squad on my command.

It's scary, but I think I'm starting to get pretty good at this war business. And it sure is nice to have a serious amount of hardware at my disposal. The Gear section of today's briefing makes very interesting reading...

Overview[]

The player controls U.S. Army infantryman Lieutenant David Armstrong. NATO reinforcements have arrived at last. With their help, the liberation of Malden is no longer an impossibility. To kick things off, destroying the Soviet camp north of Goisse will be their first priority.

Objectives[]

Primary[]

  • (1) Proceed through the valley to the perimeter of the enemy camp
  • (2) Send code Alpha to Bravo squad
  • (3) Neutralise the enemy camp

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: Proceed through the valley to the perimeter of the enemy camp[]

You start off at the peak of the mountain south of the primary AO. Move west and eliminate the nearby enemy patrol first. If you didn't equip Armstrong with an AT launcher in the Briefing, grab an RPG off one of the dead Soviet soldiers.

Now head down the valley and through the woods. You will encounter a few more isolated patrols along the way, so move carefully and have your team set to COMBAT mode. Clear all of the hostiles in the area.

Primary 2: Send code Alpha to Bravo squad[]

Once you're halfway down the valley, you can call in Bravo squad to commence their attack. Press 0-0-1 (via the Radio Menu) to request their support.

Continue to proceed down the valley, eliminating several more patrols along the way. You will run into a few more BMPs so make sure your AT gunners have a rocket ready (or destroy them yourself).

Primary 3: Neutralise the enemy camp[]

When the camp's defenders have been wiped out, you will need to pursue any stragglers left behind from the initial attack. Contrary to what the NATO commander says the enemy troops don't actually try to "escape". Just hunt down the remnants of the camp's troops, who will usually be scattered around the outskirts of it.

Once the last enemy has fallen, the mission will be complete.

Tips[]

  • Don't forget to edit your squad's loadout during the mission briefing (select the TEAM tab and then the GEAR option for each individual member). M72 LAWs are of particular importance as there are quite a few armoured vehicles for you to destroy in this mission.
  • If you are proficient at sniping, it may be preferable to equip Armstrong with an M21. It is entirely possible to take out all of the enemy patrols at the top of the valley depending on how well you aim.

Trivia[]

  • According to the official Armaverse Timeline, the events of Turning the Tide canonically take place on June 14th rather than the 15th (as shown in-game).[1]
