NOTE: This article is about the handheld Type 56 7.62 mm-chambered assault rifle. For its static launcher turret counterpart with the same designation, see Type 56 Recoilless Rifle (S.O.G.). |
« | The Chinese Type 56 is a copy of the selective-fire Soviet AK-47. Chambered in 7.62×39mm and fed by curved 30-round magazines, most Type 56s are distinguished from the AK-47 by the fully enclosed hooded front sight and folding bayonet. Captured Type 56's were often carried by ARVN Roadrunner Teams and SOG Recon Teams impersonating PAVN forces. Field Manual

The Type 56 is a 7.62 mm assault rifle used by several BLUFOR, REDFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The Type 56 is selective-fire assault rifle chambered for the 7.62×39 mm cartridge. It is gas operated and fires from a rotating bolt.
It loads from 30-round curved magazines that are interchangeable with AKs. It is capable of sharing these magazines with the KBKG, and can also load the latter's special 10-round magazines. The Type 56 can attain a fire rate of up to ~ 652 rounds per minute[CfgWp 8][Formula 1] and has a muzzle velocity of 715 m/s.[CfgWp 9]
The Type 56's muzzle cannot be suppressed and it is not able to mount optical scopes. However, its ironsights are fully adjustable and can be zeroed starting at 100 metres up to a maximum of 800 metres (adjustments are made with 100 metre increments/decrements).[CfgWp 10] Lastly, the lower front of the barrel does support the mounting of a bayonet spike to allow for improved melee attacks.[CfgWp 11]
Ironsights[]

The Type 56's ironsights can be manually zeroed, starting from a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 800 metres (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800).[CfgWp 10] By default, it is set to utilise a zeroing of 100 metres.[CfgWp 12]
Melee[]
Without its bayonet spike unfolded, the user will strike targets with a buttstroke instead. Melee attacks can inflict a maximum of up to 7 points of damage to the target if the buttstroke lands successfully.[CfgAm 1] Bayonet stabs on the other hand, deal a total of 10.5 points of damage instead.[CfgAm 2]
Note that melee attacks will drain 7.68 points of stamina[Formula 2] whenever a buttstroke (or bayonet stab) is performed.[SCR 1]
Ammunition[]
NOTE: The Type 56 is capable of loading the same magazines utilised by non-S.O.G. AK pattern 7.62 mm-chambered weapons. To minimise clutter, they are deliberately excluded from this section.

The Type 56 is capable of loading four types of magazines, all of which are fully interchangeable with the AK and KBKG.[CfgWp 13] The Type 56's 30-round magazines have a weight value of 9[CfgMa 5] "mass" units while the KBKG's 10-rounders only weigh 3[CfgMa 6] "mass" units:

NOTE: The following table includes magazines from the base game that can also be loaded into the Type 56 whilst the S.O.G. Prairie Fire Creator DLC is activated.
It should be noted that magazines from other Creator DLCs that share access to the same pool of magazines (Classname: AK_762x39) can also be loaded into the Type 56. However, those Creator DLCs must be loaded simultaneously alongside S.O.G. Prairie Fire in order for them to appear as selectable options in the Virtual Arsenal. |
Trivia[]
- The bayonet spike is always fixed onto the Type 56's model by default. It simply "unfolds" once the attachment is equipped.
- Prior to Update 1.2, the Type 56's model did not have magazine proxies and did not support feeding from magazines used by other 7.62 mm AK-type weapons (including those from ArmA 3 itself like the Apex expansion's AKM or Global Mobilization's MPi KM-72). This was changed with the patch's release so that the Type 56 now supports all 7.62 mm AK-type magazines regardless of their origins.[1]

Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Only applies to the magazine itself. Even though the magazine has an initSpeed of 715 m/s, the Type 56's weapon class has its own initSpeed value defined which always takes precedence over the magazine's initSpeed.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
