This article lists the specifications for underbarrel grenade launcher rounds featured on certain weapon platforms in ArmA 2.

Overview[]

Just like in Armed Assault, ArmA 2's UGL rounds differ depending on platform and faction, and are not interchangeable with each other.

For instance, a Russian-made assault rifle like the AK-107 utilises the GP-25; it is not possible to load its 40 mm caseless grenades into an American M16A4's M203 UGL as their dimensions are different.

Furthermore, it is now possible to load and fire smoke shell rounds which can be used in lieu of handheld smoke grenades. Compared to the latter, UGL-fired smoke shells can be dispersed at greater distances (>350 metres) and depending on the user's aiming proficiency, are more precise as well.

One notable change from Armed Assault relates to standalone grenade launcher-type weapons like the M32. In addition to feeding from their own grenade cylinder "magazines", these launchers are now able to load individual grenade rounds; aside from capacity however, their functionality remains unchanged.

List of weapons with UGLs attached[]

The following weapon platforms all feature at least one or more sub-variants fitted with a UGL:

In addition to mounted UGLs, several standalone grenade launcher-type weapons exist which mostly share the same functionality as their underbarrel counterparts:

Grenade types (GP-25)[]

GP-25s can load nine types of grenade "magazines". All grenade rounds compatible with the GP-25 occupy a single secondary weapon inventory slot regardless of their payload:

Type Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Launch velocity (m/s)
High-Explosive 12 -0.001064 80
Flare 5 -0.0005 80
Smoke 0 -0.0005 80
  • High-Explosive (HE): Effective against clustered infantry and unarmoured ground vehicles. Has a blast radius of 5 metres.
  • Flare: Illumination/signalling round. Burns for 30 seconds.
  • Smoke: Concealment/marking round. Takes approximately 10 seconds to fully form and emits a cloud of smoke that lasts for a total of 60 seconds.

The GP-25's HE grenades have a minimum fuse range of 15 metres. They will not detonate under any circumstances unless the grenade flies beyond that distance. Both smoke and flares do not have a minimum fuse range.

Flare and smoke rounds are available in either white, green, red or yellow colour varieties. There are no performance differences between the colours.

Grenade types (M203)[]

M203-type launchers can feed from nine types of grenade "magazines". The M32 is the only weapon which features its own dedicated 6-round cylinders, which raises this to a total of eighteen "magazines".

However with the exception of the M32's 6-round cylinders, M203-compatible 40 mm rounds are also considered to be "magazines" for the user's secondary weapon and will occupy the same inventory slots as sidearms (the M32's cylinders take up two primary weapon "magazine" slots):

With the exception of smokes/flares, the M203's HE grenade rounds have a minimum fuse distance of 15 metres. If any HE round impacts the terrain or an object below this range, they will not explode on their own.

The M203's flare shells and smoke grenades are available in either red, white, green or yellow colour options. There are absolutely no functional or statistical differences between the colours.

Trivia[]

  • While authentically depicted as being non-interchangeable between each other, both the GP-25 and M203's grenades (at least for their HE rounds) should not be statistically identical as they are shown in-game.
  • The British Army's UGL is the only underbarrel grenade launcher in ArmA 2 which features a functional leaf sight "reticle" that appears when the user attempts to aim with it. All other UGLs force the player to rely on their crosshairs for range estimation.
