V3S refers to a family of 6x6 utility trucks featured in both ArmA: Cold War Assault and ArmA 2.
ArmA: Cold War Assault[]
The PV3S is used by civilians throughout the Malden group of islands and Nogovan Partisan/EFA guerillas in ArmA: Cold War Assault.
Overview[]
- Roles:
- Civil transportation
- Troop transport
- Ground vehicle repair
- Refuelling
- Vehicle munitions rearmament
« | This Czechoslovakian-manufactured truck has many advantages for use in a warzone. Not only does it have extremely rugged design which gives maximum reliability over extremely rough terrain, but also can be easily fitted to fulfill wide range of functions as fuel truck or launch unit. Design[]
A general-purpose, all-terrain utility vehicle, the V3S is a single engine 6x6 truck that is designed for both civil and military purposes.
Features
Not including the baseline military/civilian transport model, the V3S has three additional configurations available:
- A mobile repair vehicle
- An ammunition carrier
- A fuel tanker
Mobility
When it comes to handling, there is almost no difference with the V3S when it is matched up against the U.S. Truck 5T and Soviet Ural. Just like both trucks, the V3S won't be able to maintain much of its speed on bumpy terrain[CWACfgV 9] and plenty of room will be needed when making hard turns.[CWACfgV 10]
However, the V3S is the slowest of the three utility trucks and can only reach a top speed of ~ 99 km/h even on turbo. Its normal cruising speeds are not that much better, as it is capped to ~ 88 km/h which is 4 km/h slower than the Truck 5T/Ural.
Drawbacks
No variant of the PV3S possesses armament and have no means of self-defence as a result. Unless it's absolutely necessary to do so, the V3S should not be driven into an active warzone as the truck can be quickly disabled or outright blown up by machine gun fire and grenades.
Crew Capacity
Transporter truck models of the V3S have the ability to carry both the driver and up to eleven passengers at once (this applies to both military and civilian variants).[CWACfgV 1][CWACfgV 2] Dedicated logistics variants on the other hand, are limited to just a single passenger who sits in the truck's cab since the flatbed is occupied by a supply crates or a spare parts/fuel container.[CWACfgV 3][CWACfgV 4][CWACfgV 5]
Variants[]
Transport[]
Baseline variant used by guerillas.
The flatbed is covered with a tarpaulin which can hide troops from view (note that the tarpaulin does not provide ballistic protection). It can transport up to eleven passengers at a time.[CWACfgV 1]
Alternate transport variant used by civilians.
Aside from its plain appearance (there are no spraypainted logos on the cab), it can also carry up to eleven passengers at a time.[CWACfgV 2]
Logistics[]
Carries spare parts, tools, and additional components for ground vehicles and landed aircraft. However, it does not have the ability to actually repair vehicles.[note 1] Only one passenger may be seated in the truck's cab.[CWACfgV 3]
Visually similar to the baseline troop carriers but the flatbed stores supply crates instead of passengers. It is intended to be used for rearming but is unable to actually do so.[note 1] Only one passenger may be seated in the truck's cab.[CWACfgV 4]
Has a large fuel tanker attached to the rear flatbed. However, it cannot actually refuel nearby ground vehicles and landed aircraft.[note 1] Only one passenger may be seated in the truck's cab.[CWACfgV 5]
Camouflage[]
- Grey: Rusted, pale light blue paint scheme with a white tarpaulin cover. Used on civilian PV3S trucks.
- Guerrilla: Identical paint scheme used on civilian PV3S trucks, but with FIA markings spraypainted over parts of the hood and frame. Only used by the Nogovan Partisans and EFA rebels.
Protection[]
All variants of the PV3S have 30 points worth of armour plating.[CWACfgV 11]
Trivia[]
- The in-game PV3S is modelled after the real-world 1964 variant of the "V3S" that was then-designed by Praga, a truck manufacturer based in the former Czechoslovakia.
- In response to a fan question on the livestream of Cold War Assault's 20th anniversary of release[1], Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Španěl, stated that the V3S is his favourite civilian vehicle.[2]
- Despite being explicitly modelled and separately configured as logistics vehicles, the Repair, Ammo and Refuel PV3S trucks do not actually have the ability to provide logistical support to nearby ground vehicles and landed aircraft.
- Their inability to do so remains unpatched even after Cold War Assault's re-release (post-Patch 1.99). The only way to "restore" their missing logistics capability is through a custom addon and usage of the setFuelCargo, setRepairCargo, and setAmmoCargo scripting commands.

ArmA 2[]
The V3S is used by Chernarussian and Takistani civilians, as well as with several REDFOR and INDFOR factions in ArmA 2.
Overview[]
- Roles:
- Civil transportation
- Troop transport
- Ground vehicle repair
- Refuelling
- Vehicle munitions rearmament

Design[]
Returning from Cold War Assault, the V3S continues to serve as a multi-purpose military and civilian logistics truck.
Features
Unlike in Cold War Assault, ArmA 2's V3S now has six unique configurations available:
- The baseline troop transport truck, either with a tarpaulin cover or exposed flatbed
- A supply truck designed to exclusively to transport supplies between bases[note 2]
- A salvager variant that collects vehicle wrecks on the battlefield[note 2]
- Two mobile repair variants that can fix damaged vehicles
- Fuel tanker truck that can refuel ground vehicles of any kind
- An ammunition carrier that can rearm nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft
Mobility
In terms of handling, the V3S is identical to Soviet-era Urals. Both trucks have clunky handling, accelerate poorly on rough terrain[A2CfgV 10], and need plenty of room to make turns (though not as much compared to their predecessors in Cold War Assault).[A2CfgV 11] When it comes to pure speed, the V3S is slower than the newer Russian-made Kamaz truck by just 1 km/h and is completely outstripped by the American MTVR (75 km/h versus the MTVR's 94 km/h).
Drawbacks
As opposed to the Ural, the V3S is completely unarmed and has no sub-variants that are fitted with heavy weaponry. Furthermore, unlike its predecessor in Cold War Assault, the ArmA 2 V3S cannot rely on speed to get out of harm's way since they are significantly slower (not to mention their clunky handling).[A2CfgV 11] Therefore, the V3S should never be sent alone into a combat zone unless the crew run with an armed escort.
Crew Capacity
All V3S trucks have enough seats for a driver and a single cab passenger.[A2CfgV 3][A2CfgV 4][A2CfgV 5][A2CfgV 6] Troop transport V3S trucks allow for thirteen passengers instead[A2CfgV 1][A2CfgV 2], while certain logistics configurations have the ability to carry a second passenger (specifically the Reammo variant).[A2CfgV 7]
Variants[]
Transport[]
Baseline troop carrier/civilian cargo truck. It can carry up to thirteen passengers on its flatbed (one passenger is seated in the front cab instead).[A2CfgV 1] It should be noted that the tarpaulin cover does not provide ballistic protection to riders in the back.
This variant's cargo space allows for up to 50× weapons[A2CfgV 12], 200× magazines[A2CfgV 13], and 8× backpacks[A2CfgV 14] to be stored.
Alternate troop transport truck variant with an exposed flatbed. It can also carry up to thirteen passengers at a time.[A2CfgV 1]
This variant's cargo space allows for up to 50× weapons[A2CfgV 12], 200× magazines[A2CfgV 13], and 8× backpacks[A2CfgV 14] to be stored.
Visually identical to the baseline troop carrier truck but it can only transport one passenger who sits in the cab next to the driver.[A2CfgV 5] It will automatically be dispatched from the closest forward base to a nearby town to increase its "supply" value.
This variant's cargo space allows for up to 50× weapons[A2CfgV 15], 200× magazines[A2CfgV 16], and 8× backpacks[A2CfgV 17] to be stored.
Visually identical to the Repair (non-Warfare) variant of the V3S but is unable to actually repair nearby ground vehicles/landed aircraft. It is limited to carrying only one passenger in the cab.[A2CfgV 6] It will automatically be dispatched from the closest forward base to disassemble destroyed vehicle wrecks on the battlefield.
This variant's cargo space allows for up to 50× weapons[A2CfgV 18], 200× magazines[A2CfgV 19], and 8× backpacks[A2CfgV 20] to be stored.
Logistics[]
Carries spare parts, tools, and additional components that can repair nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft within a radius of 7.5 metres[A2CfgV 21] (up to 200,000,000 points of damage can be restored).[A2CfgV 22] Has only two seats for the driver and a single cab passenger.[A2CfgV 4]
This variant's cargo space allows for only 10× weapons[A2CfgV 23] and 50× magazines[A2CfgV 24] to be stored, though backpack capacity remains unchanged (8×).[A2CfgV 25]
Alternate Repair variant that can also repair nearby ground vehicles and landed aircraft. It can also fix up to 200,000,000 points of damage[A2CfgV 26] but vehicles must be positioned closer to it as the Repair Truck has a smaller interaction radius of 6.8 metres instead.[A2CfgV 27] It should also be noted that this specific Repair Truck variant can ferry up to thirteen passengers at a time as opposed to only two.[A2CfgV 2]
This variant's cargo space allows for up to 50× weapons[A2CfgV 28], 200× magazines[A2CfgV 29], and 8× backpacks[A2CfgV 30] to be stored.
Has a large fuel cistern attached onto the truck's flatbed. It can refuel nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft within a radius of 7.5 metres[A2CfgV 31] (up to 3,000 units worth of fuel).[A2CfgV 32] Only one passenger may be seated within the truck's cab.[A2CfgV 3]
This variant's cargo space allows for only 10× weapons[A2CfgV 33] and 50× magazines[A2CfgV 34] to be stored, though backpack capacity remains unchanged (8×).[A2CfgV 35]
Visually identical to the Repair (non-Warfare) variant but cannot transport troops as the rear flatbed has a large supply box container attached. It can rearm nearby land vehicles and grounded aircraft within a radius of 2.5 metres[A2CfgV 36] (up to 300,000 units of ammunition).[A2CfgV 37] Unlike other logistics-oriented V3S configurations, the Reammo V3S specifically has the ability to ferry three passengers as opposed to two; one is seated in the front cab, while the second sits inside the supply box container on the flatbed.[A2CfgV 7]
This variant's cargo space allows for up to 50× weapons[A2CfgV 38], 200× magazines[A2CfgV 39], and 8× backpacks[A2CfgV 40] to be stored.
(*) These variants are completely non-functional in normal gameplay and only work in Capture The Island (CTI) scenarios created with the Warfare module.
(**) This variant is intended to be used in Warfare-based CTI scenarios that have a third playable INDFOR faction (NAPA/Takistani Rebels).
Camouflage[]
- Desert: Two-tone desert tan/olive green camouflage scheme with a white tarpaulin. Exclusively used by Takistani Army and their Militia allies.
- Olive: Olive green paint scheme with a white tarpaulin (on covered models). Used by NAPA and Takistani Rebel V3S trucks.
- Yellow: Bright yellow paint scheme for the cab with an olive-coloured flatbed. Used by Chernarussian and Takistani civilians.
Protection: Hitpoints[]
All variants of the V3S share the same base armour value of 40.[A2CfgV 41][A2CfgV 42]
Note that hitpoints remain identical on all variants of the V3S no matter their configuration.
Body[]
The truck's body can withstand up to 40 points of damage.[A2CfgV 43][Formula 1] Depletion of the body's integrity will always result in the truck's destruction.[A2CfgV 44]
Engine[]
The truck's engine can take a maximum of 16 points of damage before it fails.[A2CfgV 45][Formula 2] Only 20% of incoming damage will be shared with the truck's main "health" pool. Destruction of the engine can cause the V3S to blow up if it is at critical "health" status.[A2CfgV 46]
Fuel tank[]
The fuel tank on the V3S can only take up to 12 points of damage before it ruptures.[A2CfgV 47][Formula 3] At least 50% of incoming damage will always be shared with the truck's main "health" pool. Destroying the fuel tank can result in the V3S exploding if it is at critical "health" status.[A2CfgV 48]
Wheels[]
The wheels on the V3S can each take just 6 points of damage before their tyres burst.[A2CfgV 49][A2CfgV 50][A2CfgV 51][A2CfgV 52][Formula 4] At least 30% of incoming damage upon any of the wheels will be shared with the truck's main "health" pool. Depending on how many wheels are destroyed simultaneously, the V3S can outright explode if it is at critical "health" status.[A2CfgV 53][A2CfgV 54][A2CfgV 55][A2CfgV 56]

The truck's cab, bonnet and front wheel mudguards are protected by metal armour plates with a thickness of 1 millimetre.[rvmat 1][bisurf 1] On the other hand, parts of the truck's platform utilise plates with a thickness of 5 millimetres.[rvmat 2][bisurf 2] Only the truck's ladder frame chassis is protected by plates with a thickness of 11 millimetres.[rvmat 3][bisurf 3]
Defensive sensors[]
No variant of the V3S truck has access to defensive sensors. The driver will not be warned if a guided weapon system and/or projectile is attempting to lock onto it or has already locked onto the V3S.[A2CfgV 57][A2CfgV 58]
Trivia[]
- Prior to Patch 1.52 for Operation Arrowhead, the V3S Refuel variant's model lacked a shadow LOD (Level of Detail) and would not project shadows regardless of lighting conditions.[5]
- Rusted wreckages of the V3S are littered in remote regions of ArmA 3's Livonia terrain added with the Contact expansion, though the truck itself is not a featured as a drivable vehicle.
- For unknown reasons, the V3S Reammo is the only logistics variant that allows for a second passenger to be seated.
- However, their "seat" is not actually positioned correctly on the model. The "passenger" will be seated inside the truck's supply box but the box's interior isn't actually modelled. As a result, the second "passenger" will appear to be floating in mid-air if they switch to first person since the model's cargo LOD doesn't cover the box's interior.
- This bug has been present ever since Operation Arrowhead's launch, and has not been fixed even after the release of the latest Steam version patches (Community Configuration Project/CorePatch).

Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 Because the transportRepair, transportAmmo, and transportFuel config tokens have a value of zero for these variants, the in-game PV3S does not have the innate ability to provide logistical support to nearby ground vehicles and landed aircraft.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 This variant is only used in Warfare scenarios. It is not capable of utilising this functionality in regular non-Warfare modes.
