Vagalala is a settlement located on the island of Tanoa in the Tanoa Province of the Horizon Islands.
Overview[]
Vagalala is located at the base of a valley surrounded by cocoa farms and sugarcane plantations. The paved road on the southern side of Vagalala originates from the main highway at Tanouka in the east.
The roads on the northern side lead to the main entrance of the Red Spring surface mine (east), while the western road that transitions into a dirt trail can be used to reach the base of the now-extinct volcano of Mont Tanoa (passing through the village of Imone along the way).
Notable inhabitants[]
- Oringo Madaki (formerly)
History[]
On June 3rd, 2038, an unknown fighter - possibly working for the notorious L'Ensemble anti-government movement, destroyed the house of 39-year-old mechanic, Oringo Madaki.[1]
The mechanic had been detained by the Gendarmerie one day earlier upon suspicion that he was behind the recent murder of Jean-Guy Devereux, one of the leaders of the ruling Nouveaux Horizons party.[2]
Despite the presence of CSAT soldiers and numerous armed officers, the insurgent was able to detonate bombs in the audacious raid.[1][3] The attack resulted in the deaths of at least one policeman and injuries to several bystanders.
Facilities[]
Police station[]
The blue single-storey garage building in the centre of the town serves as a police station for the local precinct.[4] The interior of the garage is wide enough to support up to three minibus transports or pickup trucks.
The police also operate a safehouse on the outskirts of Vagalala within a jungle clearing at grid coordinates 101-092. Suspects with ties to the L'Ensemble are often brought to this location for "interrogation" at the hands of special agents.[5][6]
Estate[]
The colonial-era estate next to the T-junction is reserved exclusively for use by the local Chinese-led Pacific CSAT garrison.
Petrol station[]
A Tucan Oil petrol station is built along the road on the north-western side of the town.
Storage depot[]
The warehouse on the south-eastern end of the town is used by farmers to store harvested crops for processing.
A single railway track connects the depot to Tanouka. Locomotives use this track to transport goods directly to the docks at La Rochelle in the far north.
Trivia[]
- Prior to the release of ArmA 3's Old Man mini-campaign/scenario, Vagalala was prominently featured first in the VTOL showcase added with the release of the Jets DLC.[7]
- Vagalala's officers are depicted to be highly corrupt even by the "standards" of Gendarmerie precincts elsewhere in the province. The station's clerk notes that the officers openly write emails on their workspace terminals bragging about accepting bribes and illicit goods while on duty.[8][9]
