« | The Russian-developed Veles is a dedicated CQB bullpup rifle with high stopping power on account of its specially designed 12.7x55 mm ammunition. It was originally designed to take down dangerous criminals and terrorists with a single shot. Besides the base variant, the rifle also comes with an underbarrel grenade launcher, designated as the Veles GL, and a longer-barreled model for increased range, designated as the Veles-S. The Veles is a 12.7 mm bullpup battle rifle used by Mediterranean CSAT Quick Reaction Force (QRF) units and in limited numbers with North African CSAT pathfinders in ArmA 3. It was added with the release of the Reaction Forces Creator DLC.
Overview[]
- This section is a stub. You can help Armed Assault Wiki by expanding it.
The Veles is a selective-fire special purpose rifle that uses a short recoil operation action with a rotating bolt. It is chambered to fire the unique 12.7×55 mm cartridge.
It can only feed from its proprietary 20- or 10-round magazines. It can attain a fire rate of up to 550 rounds per minute[CfgWp 7][Formula 1] with a muzzle velocity of 380 m/s.[CfgMa 3][note 1] The Veles' carryhandle allows for optical sights to be mounted[CfgWp 8], while its side[CfgWp 9] and underbarrel[CfgWp 10] rails allow for flashlights/laser pointers as well as bipods to be fitted.
The Veles rifle can be suppressed. However, it uses its own unique suppressor design that is available in two variants: a "Large" version and a smaller, more compact 12.7 mm sound suppressor.[CfgWp 11] In both cases, the suppressors contribute to increasing the accuracy[CfgWp 12] and muzzle velocity[CfgWp 13] of the Veles.
Variants[]
Veles GL[]

The GL sub-variant has a 40 mm underbarrel grenade launcher fitted. It is ~ 18% heavier to wield due to the added bulk of the UGL[CfgWp 14] and also loses the ability to mount a bipod due to the launcher occupying the underbarrel rail.
Its reflex sight allows for a maximum zeroing setting of 400 m.[CfgWp 21] The GL 15A grenade launcher can load and fire a myriad of explosive, less-than-lethal (LTL) and non-lethal 40 mm grenade rounds. It can also load and deploy RC-40 Micro UAVs for reconnaissance purposes or as an anti-personnel loitering munition.[CfgWp 22][CfgWp 23]
Veles-S[]

The Veles-S is a long-barrelled sub-variant. Unlike its parent weapon, the Veles-S is approximately ~ 44% more accurate thanks in due part to its longer barrel. This results in the weapon having significantly less dispersion compared to the baseline Veles rifle, though as a tradeoff it is slightly heavier to wield by 5 "mass" units.[CfgWp 24]
However, it should be noted that the Veles-S no longer has a pair of ironsights due to the carryhandle's omission. Because of this, the Veles-S is not meant to be wielded without an optical sight since its rail mount is essentially unusable as an "ironsight".
Ironsights[]

Note that the Veles will impose a maximum zeroing cap of 600 metres onto any fitted optic.[CfgWp 32] This limit cannot be breached even if it allows for zeroing beyond 600 metres.[note 2]

Note that the Veles will impose a maximum zeroing cap of 600 metres onto any fitted optic.[CfgWp 35] This limit cannot be breached even if it allows for zeroing beyond 600 metres.[note 2]

Although it no longer has a pair of ironsights, the Veles-S still allows for zeroing to be manually adjusted. This begins from a minimum of 100 metres up to a maximum of 600 metres (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600).[CfgWp 36] By default, it utilises a setting of 200 metres.[CfgWp 37]
It should be noted that unlike on the baseline Veles rifle, the Veles-S will allow for a maximum zeroing of 750 metres rather than 600 metres if an optic that allows for zeroing beyond 600 metres is fitted (e.g. DMS).[CfgWp 38][note 3]

Camouflage[]
- Black: Matte black colour scheme.
- Desert: Spraypainted desert camouflage scheme.
- Urban: Greyscale "squares" camouflage pattern.
- Wood: Spraypainted woodland camouflage scheme.
Ammunition[]
NOTE: If the Western Sahara Creator DLC is activated alongside Reaction Forces, the Veles' underbarrel grenade launcher will be capable of loading Western Sahara's 40 mm grenade rounds (and vice versa).

The Veles is only able to load two types of magazines that have a capacity of either ten or twenty rounds.[CfgWp 40] The standard 20-round magazine has a weight of 21 "mass" units[CfgMa 5] while the 10-rounder magazines are lighter and have a weight of 11[CfgMa 6] "mass" units instead. Both magazine types are available in three colour styles/camouflage schemes (Black/Desert/Wood):
12.7 mm 20Rnd Mag[]

Standard 20-round box magazine loaded with 12.7 mm armour-piercing ammunition.[CfgMa 7]
None of the rounds fired will emit visible tracers.
12.7 mm 10Rnd Mag[]

Reduced capacity 10-rounder magazine loaded with 12.7 mm armour-piercing ammunition.[CfgMa 8] None of the rounds fired will emit visible tracers.
Aside from its lower round count and reduced weight, it is statistically identical to the baseline 20-round magazines.

Trivia[]
- The Veles is directly based on the Russian-made "ASh-12" special purpose rifle[1] designed by the Central Design and Research Bureau of Sporting and Hunting Arms (TsKIB SOO), a branch of the KBP Instrument Design Bureau.[2]
- Its distant firing sound effects were slightly improved after Update 1.0.1's release.[3]

Notes[]
- ↑ The initSpeed value for the Veles' weapon class is set to a value of zero. Its muzzle velocity is determined by the magazine's initSpeed value instead.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 The Veles' maxZeroing config token is technically set to a value of 650. However, because there are no optical sights in either Reaction Forces or ArmA 3 itself that allow for 50 metre zeroing adjustments beyond 500 metres, this 650 metre limit normally cannot be reached in regular gameplay.
- ↑ The maxZeroing config token for the Veles-S is technically set to a value of 750. However, because there are no optical sights in either Reaction Forces or ArmA 3 itself that allow for 50 metre zeroing adjustments beyond 500 metres, this 750 metre limit normally cannot be reached in regular gameplay.
- ↑ Damage will be reduced if the projectile's velocity drops below this value.
