Velká Ves (alternately Nová Ves[1]) was a settlement located in the Independent Republic of Nogova.
Overview[]
A village located on the eastern side of Nogova (north of Mala Ves), Velká Ves was once home to several farmers. It consisted of several single-storey houses and a small church.
It was abandoned on September 2nd, 1982[1], though it remains unclear if the village has been resettled in the aftermath of the occupation.

History[]

Soviet soldiers round up the villagers for interrogation (1982)
At the height of the Soviet occupation of Nogova, Soviet soldiers were given orders by their commander to pacify settlements throughout the island after a series of raids by anti-Soviet insurgents. Organised into "death squads", they were ordered to identify supporters of the insurgents. If any were discovered, they were to interrogate the suspects for intel before proceeding to liquidate the settlement.[2]
On September 2nd, 1982[1], one of these squads identified several supporters of the insurgents and proceeded to round up the village's men. One of the villagers, Jiri Hodek, refused to divulge the location of the insurgents and was quickly executed.[3] Before the others could face a similar fate, a number of partisan fighters led by the insurgent leader, Victor Troska, fought off the Soviets, intercepted an attempted counterattack, and then destroyed their supply base at Blata.[4][5]
The remaining villagers were evacuated from Velká Ves and followed the insurgents back to their encampment.[6] Velká Ves was subsequently abandoned, though not before the insurgents looted the Soviet base and stole large amounts of weapons and equipment.[7]
Trivia[]
- The village is alternately referred to as "Nová Ves" both on the official Armaverse Timeline[1] and within the in-game briefing.[2]
- However, neither Troska nor any of the villagers refer to it as such in their dialogue. The village's signposts also specifically refer to the village as Velká Ves rather than "Nová Ves".[8]

We originally wanted to attack the less-defended side of the bridge, but a villager who escaped to us from Nová Ves made us change our plans. Facts: The Soviets probably know we're preparing an attack. They're surely still holding some hostages in the village. The less-defended side of the bridge is likely to be full of well-prepared enemies right now."
