Mission Description

Wet Work is the sixth mission of ArmA 3's The East Wind campaign.

Quotation[]

« Everything is very simple in war, but the simplest thing is difficult.
Carl von Clausewitz, 'Friction in War', Vom Kriege (1832)
»

Overview[]

The player controls U.S. Army infantryman Corporal Ben Kerry. Delta squad has discovered intel that suggests that a high-ranking AAF officer, codename Goblin, will be arriving shortly at the village of Girna.

With the help of other survivors who have diving training, Captain Miller has ordered Alpha and Bravo squad to assassinate Goblin. If successful, the loss of their highest-ranking official would send the AAF into disarray.

Kerry's role/class:

  • Infantry / Grenadier

Default loadout:*

Loadout options:**

  • Pool of weapons and equipment stockpiled at Maxwell's Armoury

(*) This is the default loadout assuming that the player has not customised or collected different items from the previous mission and/or has chosen the Armoury's recommendation.
(**) Any weapons, ammo, gear and/or backpacks salvaged from previous missions will carry on to this mission and can be equipped through the briefing equipment menu.

Objectives[]

Primary[]

  • (1) Insert at the Bay
  • (2) Get into Position
  • (3) Clear the Town
  • (4) Confirm the Kill
  • (5) Get in the Truck

Optional[]

  • (6) Retreat to Camp Maxwell

Mandatory[]

  • Kerry must survive
  • Avoid collateral damage/friendly fire
  • Remain within the combat area

Walkthrough[]

Primary 1: Insert at the Bay[]

Once James stops the SDV, get out and begin swimming towards the shore past the moored naval mines.

Primary 2: Get into Position[]

Shortly after you emerge out of the water, a fireteam of AAF troopers will be standing close to the wooden shack. Line up your shot and wait for James to give the order to open fire. Get rid of them quickly and move towards the top of the hill towards the small chapel.

Primary 3: Clear the Town[]

Take cover behind the rocks and wait for James to give the green-light. There are sixteen enemy troopers inside the village so take your time eliminating them alongside the rest of Alpha/Bravo squad. The MX's UGL rounds work well here at clearing out most of the defenders; just make sure your zeroing for the 3GL isn't set too high.

Note that your target (Goblin) will always be the man wearing a set of dress fatigues and a military hat. He starts off inside the courtyard of the white double-storey house in the centre of Girna but will move once the firefight begins, therefore it might be neccessary to hunt him down manually if you cannot shoot him from your vantage point.

Primary 4: Confirm the Kill[]

Find Goblin's corpse and verify his identity.

His body's location will always be at the spot where he was killed - either by you or the other members of Alpha/Bravo. Therefore, his corpse can be anywhere between the walled courtyard or along the dirt road leading out of the village.

Primary 5: Get in the Truck[]

Once James reports the discovery to Miller, hop into the parked truck and wait for the others to get in. The mission will end shortly after everyone else has gotten into the truck.

Optional 6: Retreat to Camp Maxwell[]

If the truck was destroyed for whatever reason during the initial firefight, you must get back to Camp Maxwell on foot instead. Follow the rest of the squad out of the village; the mission will end once you've gotten far enough.

Tips[]

  • Do not waste time and effort on "protecting" James. As with all story characters, he is invulnerable for the duration of the mission.
  • There is no need to hang onto your Rebreather after inserting onto the beach. You can swap it with one of the AAF plate carriers if desired.
  • If you're somehow having difficulty with the initial engagement at the beach, stay back and leave it to Lt. James and your fellow teammates to tackle the troopers before emerging out of the water.
    • Don't forget that remaining below the surface is perfectly viable. Even if the troopers attempt to fire at you, the water will reduce the bullet's velocity to less-than-lethal (not non-lethal) speeds.

Trivia[]

  • By default, Wet Work is scheduled to take place at 12:25 PM like most of the early missions throughout Survive. However, this is only because the mission defaults to taking place at this time if the player reverts progress specifically to Wet Work.
    • Depending on the speed at which they progress through the episode, it is entirely possible for this starting time to be completely different (e.g. evening rather than noon).
  • It has never been explained as to why Goblin's intel image depicts a mugshot of Colonel Georgious Akhanteros.
  • This is the only mission in the entire campaign where Kerry gains access to the unique Survival Fatigues.
  • If you take too long to board the extraction truck, AAF reinforcements from Camp Tempest will eventually arrive.
  • Prior to Game Update 1.22, it was possible for Kerry to start without a Rebreather if the player did not equip themselves with one prior to commencing the mission. This would always result in the player drowning shortly after the mission began.
